    Hi
My Friend has a cat who got vertigo a few weeks ago, and she took the cat to see the local vet in Tipp. Now the cat has ear mites, and the vet has the cat on steroids for the last 2 weeks, with a devorming gel (behind the cats neck), this is not working. The cat cat hear now. The cat was on antibiotics 2 weeks for the vertigo.

Hope the cat will get its hearing back, is this normal for the condition?

Is there any good cat Cat Specialists out there?

    Thanks
    Mike

    How was the vertigo diagnosed?
The ear drops should clear out the ears did the vet give your friend this treatment or just the spot on? If its a bad dose of mites the spot on wont do the trick. I would certainly try to clear out the debris out of the cats ear which might be causing a blockage.
If it was me i would seek a second opinion but i find a lot of vets dont understand cats.
There is a cat hospital in cork. Maybe look see if they can offer any info.

I will give her a call tomorrow to ask her about her weee cat. I know the cat did not walk very well at one stage, he is walking OK'ish now.

I know she would like a good second opinion from a good cat vet

I know a really good cat vet in Kildare but that might be a bit far for your friend to travel. If you need details, please PM me and let me know.
I would swear by this man though as he's specialised in cats and dogs and has several cats of his own that he adores as much as I adore mine. He looks after all of my tribe, one of whom is FIV+, and he does the most incredible job. I know that they're always in safe hands with him and really do trust him with their lives.

The ear mites, as Themadhouse said, can't be cleared by a topical spot-on treatment. They'll need regular ear drops and cleaning to get rid of them completely and if they've caused any kind of internal infection, it'll have to be cleaned out, initially, and also treated daily. If it's an inner ear infection causing the vertigo, it will need antibiotics and possible further treatment and a good vet who has specialist knowledge of cats to treat it.

Hopefully it'll be something reasonably easy to deal with and your friends little moggins will be back to full health soon.

I have sent her a text about this vet, and I'll be in touch with you.

If you have a number or a web site for this vet, that would be excellent. I hope that wee Socks will be well again....

I hope the cat will hear again, and get back to its old life.... Its a stunning black and white cat...

    Thanks

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I've sent you a PM with the vet info. Fingers crossed for a little bit of good news for the poor little thing.
