hi just moved to the north recently and gonna change my car will be getting rid of my southern 520 for a northern one of the above.
misses bought a new yoke which will now be the family car so I'm gonna change to something a bit smaller.
have test drove both and probably prefer to drive the vw only drawback being a tiny boot.
which would yee recommend all I'm after is something that looks nice with a bit of poke and not a total guzzler budget will be around 16/17k sterling

test drove both siroccos 1.4 petrol and 2.0 diesel
nearly sure it was a 320 diesel BMW.

If you want something that's fun, you might also consider a Mazda3 MPS.

In light of the new info, i would stretch for the 09 320d as in a few years, it will be worth more than the 08 and you will not have VRT to contend with as you have owned it outside the state.

just buy a little folder and put every receipt into it, diesel, tyres, insurance, mot, tax etc etc and all this aides in getting VRT exempted when applying.

I don't think the boot size in the scirocco would be too far off the bmw coupé tbh.

If you're not doing high milage, take a close look at the 2.0 TSI Scirocco and the 330/335i coupé.

Otherwise just go with whatever you'd prefer. I'd go for a 2.0 diesel over a 1.4 though

+1 on that. A 1.4 in a Sirocco is all wrong I think. Its like seeing Megan Fox wearing a pair of those big corsits that grannies wear...

Isn't the 1.4 petrol in the Sirocco the same engine that is in the Polo gti, Fabia vrs etc.

    A 1.4 170bhp turbocharged and supercharged unit, that's decent.

Fellow in work has a black 2011 bluemotion, with R kit and he says it's 170bhp.

If I was going for a coupe.

    I would be getting a Nissan 350Z.

You can get a decent one for a little over 5k.

    300bhp, high revving V6.

    Or spend 17k sterling for a 2.0 diesel :D

lol, if he's concerned about boot space then he'll cry when he sees the measly parcel shelf of space there is in the Z...

My auld lad has a 1.4 Tsi 122 bhp Scirocco. It's a pleasure to drive, albeit a bit tight in the cabin. I find myself rubbing off the bolster of the seat every time I get in and out of it. The boot looks small, and to be fair, it is. But it's deep, and with the seats down you'll fit a good bit in. There's plenty of "poke", and I use that term lightly, in it. It's very drive able.

That said, I can't say I'd pick one over a 09 320d coupe, purely because of badge snobbery. If I was moving up north the last thing I'd be looking at is a 1.4 petrol Scirocco, they're only for us peasant, tax avoiding ROI residents :P

I know it's a nice looking car, but is that really necessary? :pac:

cheers for the feedback folks the scirocco I drove was the 1.4 petrol with 160 bhp, was very lively indeed.also test drove a Volvo c30 which looked lovely (IMO) but was disappointed with the cabin

The Scirocco looks like a van. Great fun to drive though.
    What about a BMW 123d M Sport?

TBF dont think bootspace is high on the priority list of people who buy z's.
