Im a fully Qualified PE and maths grund and haupt schul teacher in germany. I have 5 years teaching experiance. Having moved to ireland to live with my partner I am having great difficulty getting registered with the teaching council. To date i have spent 250 euro getting my transcripts translated as well as registration fees of 290 euro.

    The problems I face are:

As far as i know we have a different system in germany and we did not work with ECTS credits.

My course hand books with descriptions of modules also need to be translated into english.

I have attempted to translate the documents myself but the university say its not their job to certify these. the university is suggesting i find a translation office in ireland to certify these documents.

I am also afraid that because my qualification enables me to teach both primary and secondary i might not have enough credits for ireland.

Am i really wasting my time and money trying to get registered here in ireland

any help or suggestions very welcome !!!!

    This sounds awful!
So many barriers put in your way.
Can you try the German Embassy and ask them for help?

Is it the case that the Teaching Council of Ireland has rejected your translations?

Is so, I would imagine the onus is on them to resolve whatever translation issue they have. No harm reminding them of their obligation to with regard to the equal status of their service to all, including germans.

I rang the the Teaching Council a few weeks ago to find out if I qualified as a secondary school teacher in Ireland whether that would qualify me for teaching in the E.U. They said yes - if you qualify in one member state, they told me you were qualified to teach in any member state...viel glueck

You need Irish to teach in an primary school. Unless you can get a job with a private primary school

There is something strange about the German system. They wouldn't accept my Irish qualifications in any of the Bundeslaender because the teacher training is so different. The EU equality office said the same. I presume the reverse will be your case here. I do know of an Italian woman who had issues having her qualifications recognised and actually did the PGDE here. It's one year, quite expensive but could be worth it if you are staying in Ireland long term. Viel Erfolg!

A German friend of mine grew up here . his parents were German and German was the language they spoke at home. he went to Germany to study and had to officially prove that he could speak German.

Irish bureaucracy is nothing compared to German bureaucracy. you just have to keep trying.

A secondary teacher is not qualified to teach in a primary school. There are no PE specialist teachers at primary level anyhow.
