My playstation 3, 2nd one(1st cost €700) has just got the yellow light of death. I have tried the hairdryer on it but that only keeps it going for 2 days if done right.

I'm sure someone good can do a permanent fix as Sony themselves want €120 for a refurbished one as it's out of guarantee.

    Can anyone help me?

you need a more powerful heat source for a start the hairdryer wont get the connections to fuse again and from experience the ylod is constantly recoccuring i had my original fixed 3 times and the longest time i got out of any repair was 6 months, I have as yet to hear ylod issues in relation to the new slim version so that might be a route to look in to ... hope this helped:pac:

There is no permanent fix. When you get it back working, backup what you need backed up, to a USB

You may be wondering why the word death has been replaced by a number of asterisks.

Well for some bizarre reason this thread has been subject to unusual amounts of spam related to that particular word. So just as an experiment I'm curious to see what happens when that word is removed.

We now resume regular service :)

We are the first and only certified PS3 Repair Kit, that offers you a full and detailed repair guide, detailed videos of how to fix your PS3; 24 Hour Member Access; AND the only worldwide free telephone customer service and reply!

    Certified by who?

He's selling information only, apparently all the tools you need are 'house-hold items'? Unless you've a reballing jig underneath your toaster then it's not a house hold item. Granted reballing isn't a universal fix, but its a very common one.

The only permanent fix is to remove the rsx chip and re ball it with lead solder
This requires equipment that you wont have at home and its best to do this on a console that someone hasn't tried to fix with a hair dryer or heat gun as this can damage the chip or warp the board

I have fixed a lot of consoles with this method including my own and Ive had no problems after 12+ months

Is that difficult? How much is lead solder?

He's only selling information, freely available information to boot.

You need specialized equipment to do it correctly, you won't have this lying around for sure.
