Turning a house into a home??

    Hi guys :D

I recently moved into new rented accommodation, it's a 3 storey townhouse with the sittingroom/dining area/kitchen all open on the first floor (similar to a medium sized apartment). The decor is very generic-pale wood, beige walls and a splash of red canvas on the walls..... It's basically like a showhouse :D

Problem is, I don't feel comfortable in it and am desperate to add my own touch to it. I have no idea where to start though! The main problem is I don't have any concept of my personal taste regarding interior design :(

Can anyone give me a few pointers or recommend a website that can help? I would also like any advice on how I might break up the open living area a bit. I'm sure my landlord would be ok with me splashing a bit of paint up so long as it's not too wacky :D

    Thanks :)

Dont just presume or be sure.

Ask you're landlord 1st,as he/she has the right to say no to any painting and decorating.

If you just go ahead and do something, and then inform the landlord, then you run the risk of pi55ing the landlord off and you might have problems, from there on afterwards.

    Ask 1st.

Photo wall? PLenty of pictures around always makes a room feel homely, add some cushions / throws etc for the comfy feel. Soft lighting and candles will help you relax in a room, and you can do all this without having to re decorate :)

Hope this helps! Enjoy your new home.

Lighting can make a huge difference to a room. We never use the main overhead light in our living room - we've four lamps, one in each corner of our room, and it makes it so much cosier than one big main light.

It will be true that no one wants a boring bathroom, but then no one wants one they can't find the soap in either. Bathroom Renovation Virginia
