    Still having problems with some cows not using the cubicles. Jasus they'd break your heart. Nothing more annoying than a cow lying in the passageway in muck. We've mats on the cubicle beds etc. Moved the head rail in and stil no joy.. Some cows that were using them are lying along the feeding barrier :( Its not easy!

    throw a few tyres around the feed passage it usually stops them lying down

    With the cows not lying in the cubicles and they scouring all over the place, it's no wonder the feckin day is gone again :D

    Sorry couldn't resist that :o

    u sure are a sh1tstirrer!!!!! Good one!:D

    Automatic scrapers in the shed.....they'd be 20 tyres at the top of the shed in the morning!!! In an old shed we filled the centre (concrete passage) with water (used sand bags). The cows stud all night and 34 cubicles at their disposal....how crazy is that?!!

    put the scrapers going as often as you can, they will get fed up getting up and down

    Couple of questions;
    How big are the cubicles?
    Newton rigg or mushroom?
    have you tried pushing the headrail forward?

    The tyres in the passages might work, better still is some rough scrap in the passage:o

    Try putting a shake of meal in the top of the cubicle last thing at night and tie them in with a rope behind them till the morning.

    If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    Cant put down tyres...automatic scrapers. They're super comfort cubicles. 7'6'' cubicle bed

    when training heifers, we lock them in the cubicle shed (letting them out to feed for an hour or two in the morning and evening)and put the scrapers on as often as possible,it works fairly well. Mind you, i still have two cows that are pre scrapers..and there is no chance of changing there wicked ways!

    were after training in 25 heifers to the cubicles and the best way we find to train them, is to put gates lying flat in the passage way, basicly, everywhere bar the cubicles, the will not lie on gates, far too uncomfortable. we trained 14 hiefers to 8 cubicles last april, they got so sick of the gates that they would wait until one got up. it took about 6 weeks to train them. we kept the cibicles clean and all cubicles have mats with a bit of sawdust. my father has been using this method for years and i have never seen a cow sitting the slats.

    Am I the only one with zero issues getting heifers to lie in cubicle, their first winter in on straw too. One or two decide to reverse in but thats it, no training or anything. These methods mention, no doubt work but sound very dirty and messy. Running the scrappers every hour is the best tip I think.

    I am having the same bother with 21 Friesian heifers. About 13-14 are now lying ok but the rest are proper pricks. They will stand in the cubicle for a wee smell of meal alright but then just hit the reverse gear back onto the passage way and lie down.

    I have an old 20 cow chain tie byre thats still in good nick and i think i will tie 4 or 5 up for a few days in the byre and feed them hay and meal in the stall the way it was done in winters years ago. Will see how that goes maybe.
