When I first tried multiplayer I couldn't get into a game.

So I changed my Routers Firewall settings (I'm with Eircom) down a notch from Medium to Low and since then I've had no problems connecting into games.

May be a possible solution for some of you.

Best eircom setup . . . use a BT router! seriously hate that zyxel crap eircom use and i had an old voyager 2110 in the closet, have never had an issue with any game since the switch. Or better yet buy a router and burn that zyxel crap! XD

    It's actually a Netopia :pac:

I have been thinking of upgrading alright, but not too sure on brands and models.

    Taken from the Eircom Netopia
    High
This level of firewall protection turns off all communications to and from the Internet, permitting traffic only within your own network.
    Medium
Recommended setting. This level of firewall protection allows information to be sent securely to the Internet, but prevents anyone from the Internet from identifying the network address of your Router. This is the Internet equivalent of having an unlisted phone number.
    Low
This level of firewall protection allows information to be sent securely to the Internet, but prevents most attempts from the Internet from identifying the network address of your Router. Some methods of network address identification are allowed, such as via a pinhole, IPMaps or a NAT default server.
    Off
Not recommended. This setting disables all levels of protection for your network, and exposes your network to significant security risks by allowing all traffic to and from the Internet through your Router. This setting should be used for testing only, or if you are using another type of firewall in conjunction with your Netopia Router.

    Hope this helps

I have a zxyel router and it has been on a Strict Nat type in regards to playing xbox every since I first went on xboxlive. On top of that it is constantly dropping connection, logging me out of live and making me drop out of matches.

This has destroyed my win loss ration on COD and left me with numerous bans from Bungie for leaving Halo games.

They treat me like some scumbag who leaves games early but I'm not really like that i want to prove to the world that I can change. Can anyone recommend a router/modem that won't give me this sort of trouble......will any other router than zxyel alleviate this problem??

there are other threads on here on how to adjust the zyxel to improve its performance, but yeah, it pretty much seems to be the router. i had the same problem and connecting directly to the router with ethernet cable rather than wirelessly improved it significantly. it still freezes up and needs to be restarted often enough.

Ask someone who knows what they are doing to install a NetGear router for you and plug out that Zyzel piece of junk !!!!

Put the IP of your Xbox into the Netgear into the DMZ area and you will have Open Nat !!!

    Job Done.
