The walls are 2 an half foot on one side, 1 an half on the other. 2 an half foot between the 2.
My plan is to fill up with soil to the top of the lower wall an plant my laurel hedge. So the raised bed will be 1 1/2 foot high. Underneath is gravel so I will pik out as wide a channel as I can down to the original soil underneath. By the time the roots reach that far anyway the hedge should be well established.
    Will it work?
    Tks a lot,eamon

yes it will work. I wouldn't bother with the pick. The roots will have plenty of soil with 1 1/2 feet depth of soil and will easily work their way thru the gravel if needs be.
