Hey, I have atm Binatone Terrain 750 2-Way Radio , but I think it can be only talked to other ppl on same walkie talkie models I think, not sure though. But I dont think I can set custom frequency. So I don't think there is much point of them, can someone suggest any good ones?
    I have these atm: http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5531086/Trail/searchtext%3ETERRAIN.htm

If your looking for something of the same size. Personally i recomend any of the cobra range about 50E in maplins and cobra being, originally an irish company. 5km range depending on terrain.

The Binatone radios that you own are fairly good. All of these licence free radios irrespective of brand use the same frequency range - 446 MHz. They have 8 channels with a further 38 sub codes and some of the more expensive ones have digital coding as well. Considering that alot of radios may be in use at any one time users can set a channel and sub code for example channel 5 code 15 to try to prevent other users outside of that group from listening in or communicating with them. Practically all radios have built in scanners but most won't detect transmissions if sub codes are used. You can use your radios to communicate with other players using any brand of PMR radio as long as all the radios use the same channel and sub code.

    Oh that explains everything, thanks.

The Motorola XTR446 are pretty decent and excellent value too if you shop around. If you can afford to pay a little extra the XTN range are towards the upper end of PMR446 in terms of quality.

looking at picking up a pair ot Motorola XTR446 it says that they come with an earpiece. am i right in thinking that would include a small mic kinda like teh old wired hands free yoke that came with your phone. but my question is lest say i wanted a different headset i assume the input jacks are all pretty standard

all Motorola's have a two pronged jack for headsets. my walkie's are not motorola and they have a standard headphone jack so are not compatible. Your best bet is if your looking for new radios is to try Maplins or CQ communications on the quays. Bare in mind that they get pricey. I have my radios from aldi about five years and they have been through the wars literally, and they still work. if you have a set already find someone with another set of different make and experiment. they will work together just change sub channel. you'll find that for any airsoft site in the country your radios will be more than adequate. do what some do and spend the money on a good headset which is nearly more important than the radio.

arleitiss, They're not much use indoors. I've seen a lot of people use them and if the building isn't that big there is no point, just another thing on you to fall and break.

The XTR are single-pin. They're pretty standard connectors.

The XTR double set I got came with a small headset with mic, actually quite a decent quality one too. I got mine off pixmania.ie
