    Hi Guys,

I just watched the Snapper last night with my girlfriend for the first time ever and was in fits of laughter.

I am just wondering are there any other old Irish films like the Snapper that you would recommend?

PS - I thought the father was hilarious.. I have also seen The Van and The Full Monty.

    Thanks for the replies!

Adam and paul, spin the bottle, the most fertile man in ireland, the commitments, the van, angelas ashes (not really a comedy)... Thats off the top of my head movie wise, did you ever see mrs brown's boys? Thats good too..

The Van, The Commitments, Spin the Bottle, Intermission. All excellent Dublin films. Hilarious.

The Halo Effect. It's Stephen Rea playing a north-innercity Dubliner/chippy/gambling addict. I like it, and it's got a grand heart to it. You'd probably pick it up in your local Xtravision (if there's any left by time of reading this) for 5e, handily enough.

I think the General is a great Irish film.. not sure if it's what you'd call a comedy, but it's very entertaining and set in pre-boom Ireland like the Snapper!

The Meet the Parents movies were all **** too

I went Down is probably one of the more under-rated Irish comedies out there.

Not a fan of Spin the Bottle.

Adam & Paul is good, In Bruges is excellent.

If you haven't seen the Commitments and you like the Snapper, then the Commitments is a must see for you. Colm Meaney plays the same character (As the father) but has a lesser role in it.

Intermission really cracked me up when we saw it at the cinema. I remember when The Commitments came out - the hype was incredible. We'd see Rob Strong's lad do a gig a few months before, so we knew his voice was special. The cinemas were showing it around the clock that first weekend and we saw the midnight showing with one or two beers aboard.

Watching it now, it all seems like another era. But at the time it was huge!

Once is a great film, btw. I blubbed like a big wendy when I saw it :o:D

A couple to keep you going, IMDB links.

This is my Father It's quite funny but Try not to weep at the sad moments.

The Matchmaker This is exceptionally funny, Dennis O'Leary, Janeane Garofalo, David O'Hara and Milo O'Shea.

    Enjoy

A six-part TV series called Paths To Freedom is easily the funniest thing RTE have ever produced. The film Spin The Bottle was spawned from this series and features some of the same characters, but is not a patch on the original series. While I know it's not a film, it is related to this topic sort of... and it is well worth a look!
