Capello to miss son's wedding

Now on the surface this may seem like a stupid and pointless thread, but hear me out.

Your son's wedding is one of the most important thing in a father's life (especially so for an Italian). But because of England's match against Spain at Wembley, Capello is forced to miss out on one of the most important day of his and his son's life.

I understand the man has a job to do, and he is very highly paid of course. But it is, after all, only a friendly match. Couldn't they have got the Assistant Manager to take control for this match with instructions from Capello?

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the outcome, but what are you're opinions?

(and again, yes I do realise this is not a pressing matter, but it appears to show the utmost importance of football, which can affect other aspects of a person's life).

Exactly, England have had friendly's on this weekend in November for the last few years, hardly as if he couldn't have avoided it

I fully support players/managers missing matches when their Wife's are in labour or if their's a death of a family member etc, but not this

He probably doesn't like him or perhaps even isn't his real father.

Maybe this man is the real Dad.

For a practically meaningless friendly it is sad if he doesnt attend his sons wedding. Thanks a lot dad.

Madness, heard this earlier today, thought he'd just leave this in the hands of his assistant... I mean it is only a friendly...

let someone else do it, there is enough of them there, if capello was ill someone would have to step in then....anyone who has a son or daughter would not want to miss their wedding, if you dont have kids you wont understand.
Surely the assistant could take the game in this instance, its ridiculous madness, a friendly that will be long forgotten. Just shows how silly the game has become.

Seems bizzare, my first reaction was if I did that the missus would rip my boll*x off:eek:

The Copa Del Rey shouldn't be organised around international week.

But even then none of Barca's Spanish players will even make the bench I would guess.

What a sad state of affairs when a man can't attend his own son's wedding because of a meaningless football match.

Although if he did miss the game to attend the wedding, it would only provide the media another stick with which to beat him, so maybe it's just not worth it for him to miss the game.

Alex Ferguson missed a Premiership game to go to his sons wedding. I can see no reason in the world why Capello can't miss a friendly. Madness to miss it.

No they're too busy rambling on about some flower or something, all the time deflecting from the fact that they are playing a team that are light years ahead of them.

Surprisingly we can. Even if I never plan to marry or have kids I can imagine how it would hurt if my parents couldn't be there (wedding I mean) if I decided to. God I hate that phrase.

im no massive gaa fan and dont like to bring them into it.

but i know of one inter county player who missed his own brothers mass part to play a game. and thats common enough.
my team plays in the MDL and our keeper played the day after his own wedding, missing out on the shidig the next day.

its not that big a deal, the man is paid £6m a year ffs

christ, when the fixtures were done up for the euro qualifiers, anyone could have seen the play offs and therefore friendlies for non involved teams would be this weekend.

if i was capello, id be annoyed at my son tbh

Capello probably feels he'll need to be there to see the team that will knock England out in the QF's. Notes he takes on Saturday may help keep the score respectable in June.

Seriously? Some of the posts on here amaze me. Did it occur to people that it isn't Capello's wedding. It's his son's and future daughter-in-law's wedding. They have no affiliation to the FA, UEFA or FIFA. Why in the hell would they arrange it around date's of a soccer match?

    So his dad could attend

Match was originally scheduled for the Friday evening. Wedding on the Saturday. They had.

So a couple should arrange their wedding on a particular day so to compensate for a family member having to work?

The only thing this situation is is unlucky. End of story.

In fairness, he doesn't exactly have a routine job. I'm sure they enjoy the benefits his career has given them, so they could have picked a week not associated with international matches (yes I know the game was rearranged, but it is not inconceivable that England could have been in a playoff). It's fairly common to plan around these type of things if a family member has regular commitments like that.

Although I still think Capello should go to the wedding instead.

was a league game, intermediate in Louth

because he would have known there would be no way his father could attend otherwise

some people arrange weddings in summer as their siblings are teachers so as to ensure they will be able to attend with no problems.

if my father was paid £6m a year and i knew that he would be unavailable for maybe 15 weekends of the year, id make damn sure to arrange my wedding when he would be off.

How many international games are on a year ?....

I would imagine Capello and his family might not be short of a dollar or 2 so he probably wasnt fixed to a cheap deal this weekend ;)...

Doesn't make sense to even have it anywhere near the international break... Maybe Daddy was never around, always at games when he was a kid and now he is getting revenge.... Cats in the cradle as the first wedding song...

Are you an alien that just landed? Of course it is very, very unusual for a father that is not estranged from the family to miss their child's wedding.

If they're not that worried about him being able to attend I'm sure they won't be too worried about him not attending.

Rafael Benitez missed his father's funeral so that he could be with Liverpool for the Club World Championship final.

Have the FA said anythin bout this? It could be that thay are literally holding him to his contract and he has to attend the match?

Up to about a month ago the friendly was only provisional as England were still in a position where they could have fallen into the playoffs.

A playoff game which the home team could have choose to play on the Saturday or even if it was a Friday first leg Capello could hardly have taken the Saturday off with the second leg to prepare for.

Just seems rank bad decision making by the son to have chosen this weekend.
