Apple Devices WiFi issue

I wonder has anyone else had issues like this. I moved to Magnet last June and recieved a Zyxel 6600 router to replace our Netopia originally from eircom that had served us well for years through a change to Vodafone as well. As a household with several devices and smartphones we make extensive use of wireless. All work flawlessly (laptops, WII, Blackberry Xbox360) except our Apple devices (iPhone 3gs and iPad). On these the connection to wireless is made and works for about 5-10 minutes before dropping connection. It does not seem to matter how much activity there is in that space of time.
The only change made to the Zyxel from default was to change mtu to 1492 from the default 1500 to resolve an issue with some websites initially.
I have had this issue on IOS4 and still on IOS5. Any ideas? I have tried various DNS servers as it sounds like a DNS issue to me but to no avail.
Anyone have any advice or ideas that might help?

    have you tried this?

Turn off all wifi in the house then reboot router.

Once router is back up turn on wifi on iDevices first then the rest, see if that helps.

Thank you. I will try that. I have found some other people with similar problems

    It's not the devices it's the router. It's a piece of ****e.

One thing to try is increase the timeout values to the maximum number and change from autochannel setting to a channel of your choosing, as the Zyxel seems to drop connection every time it changes channel, which it does every time there's a slight interference on your channel.

Sadly true, the router is a nightmare. I had one but it just left my ipad almost incapable of use. Got a new router and the problem disappeared immediately. I wasted a month fiddling with settings, reading up online, ringing tech support etc. Only that worked was the new router.

Have to agree. An airport extreme eliminated all sorts of issues with AirPrint, apple tv, ios5 wifi sync etc.

Thank you all for your advice. I will bite the bullet and get the airport device. One of my colleagues has one and has also recommended it.
