Does anyone know of anyplace in Ireland that would be able to repair a volvo throttle body (ETS) BBA reman in the UK seem to be able to it but would prefer keeping it local.
It's off a '00 s80, that's down on power - won't rev over 3krpm and won't go over 20mph. The only alternative is to go to a main dealer which will work out at about €1k including parts and labour, the car isn't worth that much!

Would it not be cheaper to get a second hand one form eBay or a breakers?

Second hand one cant be reprogrammed to a different car.And they cant be repaired.

What you can do however is try and clean it with a decent throttle body cleaner--sometimes works, sometimes it doesnt.
These are a well known problem with the Volvo s80/s60.

Even if you buy a new unit from ebay/abroad it will still have to be programmed to the car in a main dealer.
Pop me a pm with the Vin number and I`ll get you a price from here fitted.

Find that hard to believe. In all my time in Volvo Ive never seen a second hand throttle body that required software work in a different car vehicle than the original.

Once you fit one you need to add software to turn the the EML off and reset limp mode.

Before did it asked volvo dealer about new unit and programing ,was told about 570 euro for throttle body plus 100 euro for job.

Found used one with simmilar no(Magnatii marelli) and it works.

Anyway I heard people who can repair it (replace potentiometer - think thats the problem with this throttle body -for new one)

He can try to do it, it just few yoyos.

Sounds about bang on at that price.

Fair enough--Ive just never seen a used one work before--is all down to the software required...maybe you were lucky.

And yep it is the Magnetti Marelli one that gave problems. They changed to Bosch in and around 2002 and that resolved the problem once and for all.

Might be worth having a go at cleaning it. See thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=65562385.

It was cleaned but absolutely no difference. I was talking to a local volvo specialist who's done a few of them recently and he seems to think that cleaning them is just clutching at straws!

Update on this, old throttle body was sent off to BBA reman in England. It was repaired and returned and fitted into the car - car going perfectly since and needed no reprogramming.
There were fitting/installation instructions and these had to be followed to the letter to ensure it worked without fault but they just involved clearing any relevant faults and making sure they were gone before starting the engine
