How long do these generally last for? like wear n tear....

Unless you are driving on actual snow, I believe they don't last at all. Any driving on cleared roads will screw them up pretty quick.

Might need to confirm that, though.

He's actually correct. Any kind of driving on slush or Tarmac and they'll shred fairly quickly. They only are a get out of jail card to use where snow may be heavy ie remote areas or your housing estate ect.

This is probably not something you'd want to skimp on spending. The Weissenfels WeissSock Snow Sock is a good quality brand that will last if you treat it right. As Dades says, it's only designed to drive on snow (at slow speeds). Think of them as akin to snow chains and you'll get long service out of them. They'll last a good few years and as long as it's on snow, can be used for good distances (again, at slow speeds).

Check out Micksgarage.ie for a few alternatives.

Dont waste your money OP unless your moving to Norway. Of all the snow we had the last couple of years you'd have been able to use them 3-4 times before they were shredded. Just take it easy on your normal tyres and you'll be fine.

snow socks are fantastic to get you out of a hole (literally) but should be removed once on roads, particualrly if they are cleared/gritted as they will shred easily. as others said, they are to get you moving if you are stuck, not desinged to remian on wheels for extended wear.

Funny, I used them for two weeks in Dublin during the last snow. Not a scratch on them. You obviously either aren't speaking from experience or didn't heed the manufacturers instructions.

And if not, then leave them on as they will continue to keep you on the road (as my 24km commute proved).

I got a set last year when we had the bad snow and they are still perfect. As has been said you need to take them off when driving on grited or snow cleared roads. You have to take them off at night and wash them. It's a bit of a pain but at least you know you won't get stuck some where and wish you had them in your boot. :)

Got a set from Motorsock last year, still have them in the boot, lasted perfectly and a lot better value than micks garage, €50 for the same thing micks garage are charging €76.50. Only problem was wanted to get a set for the bird and they were sold out....

Lidl have snow chains coming up in one of their "Specials" though I can't find it on their website (I saw a poster instore). Near sure they were €39.99 for a set (could be wrong), don't know if that's good value.

Are chains not illegal in ireland.

Most roads are well fecked up anyway, so can't see chains do any major damage to them!

i bought these last year on spec at the ideal homes from micksgarage for €60, and when the snow came i was able to tackle roads where others failed, plus i still have them for this winter. i did take them off immediately i hit tarmac though,ALSO- weisenfels were the ones on the garda cars last winter
