    He'll be back, don't worry.

"I didn't see Marty (Boyle) being struck but I saw him hitting the deck. I was straight on to the referee, to be honest.

"I never used to be a player that would have done that, until this year. You do whatever it takes and it was a chance to get rid of one of their boys.

"The game was in the melting pot then, I make no bones about it. I saw it as a ticket to the All-Ireland final.

"I just said, 'He hit him, he hit him, he has to go.' And I said it to the linesman as well."

Disgraceful attitude and makes it all the more sweet that Connollys ban was overturned.

Could not agree more, i would love to see the rule changes congress bring in a new rule that a player who blatantly dives or playacts in order to get another sent off gets a card themselves. I would even go as far as to say give them a red card it would soon be stamped out in no time at all.

As for cassidy i cannot see him being out for good, maybe go so far as until a new manager comes along but he will be back

It always amazes me that whenever people bring up Connolly's red that they make him out to have done nothing wrong. He didn't deserve a red but he was stupid to raise his hands to Boyle.

We can all give out about Cassidy's attitude but he isn't the only player who would have called for a red in that situation.

Exactly, and tbf if Connolly wasnt from Dublin no one would even remember the incident, any player that says they wouldnt have done exactly what Cassidy did is either in a very very small minority or a downright liar, I admire hes honesty (albeit after the fact), he's job is not to ensure fair play, he was selected on the Donegal team with the sole aim of winning an AI.

I never said he did nothing wrong, nor did I imply that. I agree with the second sentence completely.

He is the only one who has admitted to calling for Connolly to be sent off despite not even seeing the incident. He is the only person this thread is about.

Nonsense. A red card in an All-Ireland semi-final would be remembered regardless of the county. And it is Cassidy himself who has brought this back into the news, not Dublin fans.

Well if that is the attitude we are to encourage (dive, lie, cheat... it doesn't matter once you win) then the sport will go the way of so many others. There's no use in admiring his honesty 3 months later when all is said and done, when all he is being honest about is cheating on the field.

    In summation:

If Connolly hadn't raised his hands, there would have been no talking point.
If Boyle hadn't taken a dive, there may not have been a talking point.
If Cassidy (and possibly others) hadn't tried to get Connolly sent off despite not seeing the incident, there may not have been a talking point.

The outcry is unfair to Cassidy as he is being honest about his wrongs and it won't encourage other players to be honest hence the problem remains

You'd swear from the reaction of most that it had cost them the AI, never mind the fact they went on to win the match anyways and the AI.

When a player is being honest after cheating and being given harsh treatment for it the problem remains.

    Never implied you said that.

You quoted me, that's enough of an implication for me. Anybody who reads the thread would agree with me on that I'm sure. But it's not worth arguing about, life is too short.

I've no desire to argue with any of your points as I'd just be repeating myself.

Not really. I was quoting the article. Your point wasn't really specific enough to say you thought Connolly was a saint and you obviously didn't think he was. Sorry that you took offense and all but there's no need to take any of what I said to heart here.

Could not disagree more with Jim McGuinness' decision to kick him off the panel! Yes he might have breached your 'secrets' but seriously, the lad kicked a 60 yarder to get you into an all ireland semi final, he picked up a well deserved all star and ironically was the man who controlled the defence that day against Dublin! Whatever about getting Connolly sent off, anybody would do that for a shot at Sam Maguire, but i think Jim McGuinness will seriously regret this decision and could find himself in the same position as the Cork team were a few years ago!!!

Havent read Cassidys comments in full but sounds like an overreaction from mcguinness.mind you cant believe cassidy was stupid enough to make some of those comments at this time.

Ah don't worry, I wouldn't take anything on this site to heart!

Lets not get off topic! its a thread about kevin cassidy being dropped although connolly raised his hands so it is an undisputed red and anyone that does obviously doesn't know the rules or they are biased dubliners (not saying all dubs are biased, just some)

Cassidy has his first Ulster medal after 8 years and Donegal's first in 20. No need for over exaggerations.

Just when we get a little momentum & reason to look forward to the summers again we self destruct.

In that I see nothing wrong-he just acted the Captain & tried to keep the team together so maybe the crux has not been included in the link.

So strang in that it was Jim McGuinness that convinced him to stay last year.
    looking forward to the summer?

if i had to watch the tripe football donegal have adopted i wouldnt be looking forward to any game never mind listening to critics basically calling that style of football out as being terrible for the game..

really donegal have some fantastic footballers but the style they are playing is not football its utter rubbish..

i think a change of manager would really stand to donegal, a manager that will let those lads play the way the game should be played..

and before anyone says it yes donegal put kildare out a fantastic last gasp kick it was too but i just cant stand the football they are playing now sorry

btw that wasnt an attack on donegal guys but the management are where my grievences lie...

donegal have a fine team but that management team have turned a good team to a loathed team for the way they have them playing ball..

maybe they won ulster but it really is ugly football like 15 gob****es jumping on top of the other team to stop them doing much....

    DARK-KNIGHT,

There's no doubt that Sam the Eagle and his crew will come up with a more offensive strategy for 2012. They have to or else they're going to get caught out again. They haver to stop playing not to lose a game instead of playing to win a game if you get my drift.

look jim openly admits that he has to add attacking strings to the play, he set out with one objective this year, to make us hard beat. NFL d2 title, ulster and a 2pt semi final exit, job done. il get annoyed if we still look like that in a few years but i dont think we will. this topic is not about donegal's style of play though! (and im fucking sick of this shit)

Cassidy broke the rules aparantly and had to be dropped, you cannot have one treatment for him and a different one for Adrian Hanlon who was dropped for a breach of the rules earlier in the year. i can just imagine its suspension til the end of the calender year, or maybe the mcKenna cup so he actually misses games. permanent ban would be stupid, but disipline has been lacking in donegal for years and it was always going to take a big call to get players to start falling into line... my feeling is the ban is only going to cost him his holiday!
