How close to side boundary?

A quick question. Looking to extend our house to one side of the existing house and am wondering how close to the side boundary we can build. We are in a rural setting in Co. Galway.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Thanks, but I had a look at that before posting here and couldn't see anything regarding how close to side boundary

    you will require planning permission.

therefore how close you can go is up to planning authority. generally you may wish to retain pedestrian access of approx 900mm. if you want to go as close as possible.. you need to figure out how much scaffolding you will need to be safe, and work back from there.

OP, you need planning permission. You might want to go all the way to the boundary if there is access on the other side. Or if its a semi-D, then you might want to keep a 900 passage
