Hey, since I bought my Golf Buddy I have been saving my scores...they are limited in value but any pointers wud be appreciated.....no smart arses.. any advice from low guys on what I should be focusing on wud be great..

    > Blues on my home course, CSS usually 36/37
    > also Powerscourt, Tullamore, Kilcoole, Killeen Castle in comps
    > sample 20 comps
    > includes a win, second and a lot of buffers!

    Scoring Avg +12
    Putting Avg 1.72
    Fairways Hit 61%
    left 12%
    Right 25%
    S/Save 20%
    G.I.R. Avg 28%

For what its worth I struggle for distance off tee.. say avg 220 yrds.. as home course is not the longest I'm ok.....

    Also, guess my handicap!

    Cheers

I'm not qualified to give advice but your stats look pretty solid to me. Your putting ave looks the most impressive.

    I'd guess your a 9 handicapper !?

If your scoring average is +12 an you only hit on average 4-5 GIR that means you short game is in pretty decent nick.

Their is a huge correlation between GIR and over all score, I think you need to hit a few more a round to get constantly in the 70's. Simples .. Well not really..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭J6P

Was going to guess 9 as well.

Approach play looks suspect. 61% FIR and only 28% GIR. Maybe thats caused by needing longer irons/rescue for your 2nd shot due to a short Drive.

Have you tried any of your pals drivers to see if a differnt shaft can get you some more distance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭golfnut1

I'm going to guess you play off 7. Avg score +12 well its meant to be a struggle. I play off single figures myself but not a hope of avg score +12. Worst year I have ever had. Roll on 2012!!!!

me too roll on 2012.. Guess your single figures alright.

Chipping and putting is my strength, I'm confident I can get up and down from anywhere

KPH and J6P, maybe my chipping and putting is good because I have loads of practice from the missed greens! I would really like to get up to 40% GIR (7 per round).. that would make life a lot easier.. I hit 42% on Sunday.... I feel my GIRs and driving distance will improve from a more consistant swing/improved technique so I'm working on that as much as I can with limited time.....

sorry, I was on a call.... 10.7 (11)... have basically been off 11/12 for last 12/16 months after dropping from 18 over past 3 years...

This year I have played 37 Q comps

    19 x .1 1.9
    6 cuts totalling 2.7
    12 buffers

I amassed the .1s mainly during the first 3 months of the year when my driving was all over the place... since mid August I have had no .1s!

Good stuff I would think your still on the way down. Just looked at my stats this year I averaged 31 points. So I'm on the way up I'm afraid. Oh well that's what 3 young kids does to your game!!

our driving stats are very similar with left/right spread! 40% greens is great...

Nothing beats not knowing will the ball go left or right from the tee! A two way miss is no fun...

Don't know how useful this comparison is.
The course played has a lot to do with it.
I.e. long and open with big greens vs short, tight with small greens.

your GIR is 20% ahead of me... I don't have a C&P stat of gof buddy but I would guess I'm in 30% easily as its my best skill....

If I can keep short game as sharp and really try and improve my ball striking I might make the dream of a single figure handicap! I'm hitting enough fairways, just maybe a little too far back from green and/or my irons are not quite up to the requisite standard yet...

I rarely go left, really the exception.. most of my lefts are from a few rounds when I was trying out a draw biased driver!
My miss is a half sliced drive that goes right but not badly but goes fuk all distance..

my course has fast, smallish greens with some devilish slopes... Maybe thats why my GIR is so bad;)

I'm going to hit a load of drivers Sat morning and measure my average and spread over a decent sample..

I did that about 2 weeks ago. It was early in the morning and cold with a very slight wind hurting. I warmed up and then hit a nice draw one that If I hit on the course you'd be happy with.it carried 216 meters.
I have an average swing speed of 98 mph.
The ball just doesn't travel in winter.

your fir stat is very good so it does sound like its either your irons are letting you down or youre possibly not hitting the ball very far off the tee so leaving yourself a lot to do with your approaches. i dont know if you keep your average driving distance per fir stat but mine is 257yds, in case that helps.

cool thanks.. I'll track it for a while..easy to do with golf buddy.... most of the guys I play with outdrive me easily (some with 3 woods!) but I usually score better then them say 90% of time..... my course has alot of elevations so its hard to get a proper average..I'll find a few flat tee/landing areas and get to work....

No wonder there is slow play with you boys' recording every stat as if your playing on tour.

    Hourses for courses I suppose.
I don't keep stats myself only distances
As long as your overall goal is to take as few shots as possible that's the fastest way to play golf.

    Lads,

Can I ask how ye record yer stats on the golf course.
Is there a standard golf card/template readily available thats quick and easy to fill in.

Dont want to buy an electronic device and I dont have an I-phone.

Also looking for a free, user friendly, PC based app for recording and analysing scores. Something excel based would be great.

    Thanks.
