Inaccurate documentation

    I have a problem.

I am trying to repatriate a car which was originally Irish but imported to Britain several years ago.

The UK DVLA certificate states that it is a Ford Escort, but it is actually a Ford Sierra.

I do not have the original Irish logbook, but the cartell website simply lists it as a Ford 1.3 litre and does not make reference to any model.

The chassis numbers, engine numbers correspond perfectly to the Irish records, but as both the UK & Irish records are mistaken, I appear to be screwed.

Anybody any ideas on how to deal with this?

buy a new vw and avail of their special generous offer of an extra 500 euro for the new year
the cheque/voucher comes in the post with the offer

If you have the original Irish reg. I would have thought you would simply go through the 'Lost Logbook' procedure and forget about it ever being in the UK. Another bonus is that you wont have to pay any VRT.

I do not think you pay VRT on a reimportation. I may be wrong on that.

My car details were put on the system incorrectly.. Twice at that !

First mistake was the car a 944 was put down as a 911, Second mistake the chassis no was wrong as well !

If you get a letter off a garage explaining that the details are incorrect on garage headed notepaper and signed by the mechanic your local tax office will correct it.

Seeing as your car is a UK one at the minute then present her UK V5 doc and car along with the letter from the garage, explain the case and it should be fine ! If not you will have to contact the DVLA in Swansea and send back the V5 and get a new one... ! Theres no reason why the crowd here cant sort it but....!

Do you have to take the car to the NCT crowd or local tax office ?

Sure my motorbike is apparently a diesel, which is slightly true in that it burns oil being a stroker.

If any of the documentation show the chassis number then that should be all you need since this will define exactly what model they car is/was/will be.

    Pathetic comment.

Thank you everyone else for your helpful replies. I reckoned the chassis number should be useful, but only if the NCT centre is willing to accept common sense - and this assumption cannot safely be made
