    Hi Guys,

I am thinking of changing my 00 accent for one of these models. Kindly help me choose. which one will be more reliable and economical to run. I am looking at 2008 model and budget is around 7-8k. Also I am confused to buy it from dealer or private. Have heard some bad stories re. dealers. The car in mind is from main Peugeot dealer.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,

Passat is the best car. buy from a SIMI dealer. get a warranty. complain about everything during warranty period.

    service history is everything

Peugot will break down and the vectra will go straight at roundabouts in the wet.

Out of those 3, deffo the Passat. Probably have to drop the year for that budget though and personally, I would go private.

    What's wrong about 407?
    Is it that bad?
Prices seems to be very competetive.
Like for the money I recently got 04 Mazda 6 I could get probably 06 or 07 peugeot 407.
Now I'm thinking if I shouldn't have gone for peugeot?

Vectra although not one of my favourite cars is quite alot of car for your money, probably get a nicer one for 8k than a 8k Passat. Also if you went the sensible route of the 1.9CDTI then torquesteer is hardly going to be an issue. Great engine in them.

I would still have your mazda anyday. Peugeot gives a pile of small niggly problems that will drive you mad..

I have a Passat and yes it is a great car and in 1.9TDI form it's got a good reliability record.

I have regularly gotten 50 mpg from it. Mine is an 06 with 135k miles and shows very few signs of this. It's very comfortable over a long journey and has loads of space, more than I need really.

One word of warning though. If anything goes wrong expect to pay big. Mine is currently in the garage.............

Personally I'd like a 407 but admittedly they have many niggly faults.

It's reportedly easily tunable and hopefully after the weekend I can give a review of how much this changes the car as it was a little underpowered for over taking in my view

The small petrol models wouldn't suffer from it either to be fair.

Your €8k will buy a B6 Passat but older than 2008 which are known to have problems.

The Vectra is an old design, by 08 dynamically it was totally outclassed by it's rivals. Cheap as chips though.

The 407 can suffer from electrical problems and €8k would only get you a high miler 08 diesel, a petrol is within budget but they almost unsellable.

My choice would be one of these.

Yeah true can't imagine the 1.8/1.6 having trouble in that department, but the 1.9CDTI is such a much better engine, although the petrols are so cheap at the moment but for a reason.. :)
