I'm really sorry guys, I know this has been done to death.....

I tried ringing this morning but was waiting so long I got cut off and I cant afford to put more credit into my phone.

We applied and got confirmation on 4th August - first time application.

Any idea how long it'll be? Really struggling at minute and would be a load off my mind if we knew we'd have it for christmas.

The message on the phone now says processing time is 20weeks. I rang about a month ago and it was 15 weeks......thought it was getting shorter, not longer :(

The lady I just spoke to told me they are on August 2nd so hopefully not much longer for you to wait

mine came about 7/8 weeks ago after a 23 week wait so i really cant see how they would be up to august now when 8 weeks ago they were on april. Hang in there OP i was struggling too but just thought of it as a good way of saving and put it to the back of my mind as much as i could

This appears to be a common problem - differing dates depending on who you speak to.

I am trying to be positive about the saving etc but will christmas, car tax and insurance due and bins due, I'm begining to panic slightly.

It will definately be backdated, yes?

Defo back dated to the date the application was recieved. I just put all non essentials to the side and payed the rent and bills and shopping. i understand stressing about xmas when you have kids, not a nice feeling but it can be done on a budget and kids will be happy! As for the rest of the bills i made contact with the providers and they were helpful

I applied on the 26th of July, and 15 weeks for me would have been 11th July. I called about 10 days ago and asked how much longer, the woman said for new applications they were sitting on June still. August applications are the renewals. I told her we were really struggling and needed money desperately. She said she would try see if she could get my application transferred to their "backlogs" department. And I just logged into my account and was shocked to see a lot more money in there than I expected!! Her name was [redacted], and she was lovely. So my suggestion would be to call and call, and just hope you get a nice person like her. She had originally said it would be mid december before we had a decision. I still have no idea how they got to the figure thats in my account.... The other thing I am stoked about is that the Back to School Footwear people told me that as soon as my FIS decision was through, they would pay me the BTS amount. :D Very relieved.

Sorry to thread hog this one but I've put this up as an original thread but the people on here might know the answer?

I have been offered a new job which I will start within the next 2 weeks. Before this I was on a back to work scheme but work has dried up so I am going to take this new job as it suits our family situtaion perfectly and it's part time. My husband is self employed.

My question is, when I'm filling in the form it states that 2 payslips are needed. I have already informed the BTW that I no longer qualify for that and am starting a new job so that payment will stop probably by next week.

My new employers pay monthly. Does that mean I'll have to wait 2 months until I have the 2 payslips before I can apply for FIS for us? If so it will be a real struggle coping with no money coming in for 8 weeks (+however long it will take to process the claim). We will have little money coming in from my husbands work but not enough to sustain everything in the interim. Has anyone any experience on how this would work?

As far as i know you can send in the application with as much info as possible and forward on your payslips when you get them. Its best to get the application in as soon as possible because waiting times are gettin longer. Good luck with the new job

If you are not starting your job until 2 weeks ,you are not going to have all the info they need ie employer details(application needs to be signed/stamped by employer)?am I missing something here?

I am sure if she explains the situation the employers will fill out this part of the form so the application will be in as soon as possible

I've spoken to the employer today as I had to hand in my tax credits and the lady in accounts said that she can do up a letter for me detailing what my pay will be and that will do for now to submit the form and she will also fill in their section of the form for me and stamp it (they are really nice and accommodating)

I also rang the FIS line and they said this was ok and to just send in the payslips when I had them..she was processing an application dated August 19th 2011 when she was talking to me..she said the backlog is getting very big so to send in what I have and anything I don't have I can send in later

    Thanks all for the advice:)

That part of the form also requires details of 4 weeks/1 month worked.

You would be better off getting a photocopy of the section the employer needs to fill and get them to complete it when you have completed your first month and send it along with the payslip. If that isnt completed fully ,when the application is ready to be assessed ,they will end up writhing to your employer looking for the extra details.

Also your file will also be sent to an inspector before a decision is made because your husband is self employed. That will slow it down further.
