    Hi All,

Currently I have a pair of dunlop purofort wellies (think thats what they called)......since the the start of Nov I've been doing a lot of walking in them and as of last Sat I've a real bad arch pain in my foot. I've got insert and they appear to be solving the problem...however I wouldn't mind getting a pair of proper wellies that support the arch of the foot.

I've looked at the Le chameau Chasseur boot it's expensive I know (not too bothered on cost once it will do a good job) I've also looked at the Dubarry range of boots

Have other pope on here had my problem and what welly have they gone for?

I wear The dubarry Galway boots for stalking and have to say they are the business. Fairly pricey but I'm in my 5th year with the same pair and they're still good as new and water tight, even through my lack of care for them!!

I don't know of any wellies which have in built arch support but you could just put a set or orthotics into the foot wear.

You could go to a shop which specifically caters for runners. Some do gait analysis and would be able to sell off the shelf othotics you could put into the wellies.

Wouldn't break the bank and probably a better solution than taking a chance on a new set of wellies.

get yourself a good pair of waterproof highleg boots its all ill wear as i have the same problem, have a pair of mendle boots for 8years now,if you take care of the leather, they will last years and will support your foot better than any welly, also freeze a bottle of water in the fridge and when you get in from the hunt put it on the ground and roll the arch of your foot on it,it releaves the pain

I have the same problem as you, its called Plantar Fascitis, and you get it from wearing Wellington boots and walking over rough ground. Do as already suggested and get yourself a good pair of lace up hiking boots.

Boots I wear Meindl Dovre Extreme and they have given me great relief.

Its from the cheap wellies tbh. Plantar Fascitis is in the heel rather than the arch and is very painful as well I know. It can extend to the arch occasionally but the severe pain will be in the heel.

Would you consider getting a good pair of waterproof boots and some gaiters? I use these more often than the wells now as I find them lighter and more comfortable.

I have it in my left heel at the moment and its f'in Killing me every time I get up to walk, last year I had it in both feet before I got the boots, but they seemed to sort it out until this summer when I got it back in my left heel again after I bought a new pair of shoes.

Try getting insoles with heel and arch support. They're about 40 quid in the pharmacy but I picked up a pair in TK Max a fortnight ago for 12. They have made a big difference in my boots.

Murrays on Talbot have great arch supports for 20 Euro, but its going down into my heel too. Runners are the best to deal with it. How bad can it get?

You have the same problem as me, I got severe pain in my feet, all the way up my legs too. It was from the flat sole runners I was wearing, and they had no arch support.

You have fallen arches, and you need a runner, boot, etc... with arch support to compensate this, get it done as soon as you can cause trust me the pain spreads!! :(

God help you, the pain is cruel. Most doctors will say rest and ice, there are some stretching videos on Youtube for it that will help. This may sound odd but if you stretch your calve muscles then you wont get it as often.

If I get a pair of meindls what's the story with walking through streams or bogs. Won't the water just go over the top as these boots are not as high as wellies?

You are really better off with good lace up boots.

However if you must wear wellies get ones with soles that flex from side to side as little as possible. Also get a set of orthotic insoles, Superfeet are the best value and most outdoor shops stock them.

Good idea to get the insoles before you try on the wellies or boots for size!

For some reason wellies cause me to develope an ingrowing nail problem on my left foot. After a particualry nasty incident that required several pain killing injections and surgery, I gave up on wellies a few years ago. I now use specialized hiking boots for the same purpose as wellies and haven't looked back since:)

I recently bought a pair if Meindl Dovre Extreme boots. I have to say they are the dog's b****x. Best buy in a long time. While I didn't have feet problems in wellies I was slipping and sliding all over the place while out stalking on the hill. The boots are the only way to go

I had the same problem, My feet nearly fell off with pain. I got a pair of Meindl army pro. Expensive but totally worth it. I will get at least a decade out of them. I wear a Jahti jakt pants over the boot down to the ankle where it is velcroed. Unless i am jumping into and staying in two feet of water I don't get any wetter than when I had wellies And I can still walk the next day. Only wear the wellies now for mucking out the dog run!

You wear the Jahti pants as an over trousers or like a regulats pants?
And what one did you get?

sure it all depends how deep the water you walk into is,you can get a highleg meindl they would be nearly as high as a rubber boot

I bought a set like this one last year specifically for goose shooting in cold wet weather. Then the snow came and I could road test it!:D Great value for the money, Was as warm as toast. For the snow I didn't need all the layers but it was really warm and withstands a fair amount of rain has tonnes of pockets . I could not afford the Haarkilla stuff and looked at other types but opted for this. Never looked back. The do a bonus pack of items and sales from time to time. When out after pheasants I would wear the outer layer just like regular pants. Like wearing comfortable trousers. For anything that you would be waiting in the cold for, like duck/geese I'd add a second layer. The pants is kinda padded and has a high back so if you are waiting for duck you don't get your kidneys frozen. I will deffo buy from them again. Bman

For the meindl dovre extreme i got a pair of british army gaiters, the normal berghaus didn't fit around the boot. You will go through a stream no bothernwith them, i just wouldn't stay in the stream too long as water will eventually get in.

The BA gaiters are €13 in the army surplus in Midleton, if thats any good to you.

What price would you expect to pay for a pair and is there anywhere online you can get them?

Given what they cost, (my Meindl Taigas were about €280 I think), you should get them fitted to be absolutely sure of the size. A half size too big or small will kill you after a day in the mountains!

Ok fair enough so what shops stock them?

The Great Outdoors in Dublin City Centre have them. I think 53 Degrees North on Blanchardstown do as well. For hiking boots go for the green ones and trim to match the insole of the boot.

A lot of other outdoors shops of eBay have them.

I got the Taigas in Great Outdoors. They are a full thickness leather version of the high army ones - dunno the model. They probably will have to order them in but you can size on the army ones which are the same except for the thickness of the leather.
