Could anybody advise me on the best route to Rotterdam? Ryanair don't list it – though they have Eindhoven and Masstricht.

I don't see an option on Aer Lingus either. I'm a real rookie when it comes to this.

Netherlands is the size of Munster. It's tiny! Fly to Amsterdam with Aer Lingus, or to Eindhoven with Ryanair, and take the train to Rotterdam (no more than an hour).

I did the marathon there last year and flew to Amsterdam, and was in Rotterdam before I knew it. They have good public transport!

There are trains direct from Amsterdam airport (Aer Lingus) to Rotterdam every few minutes, so that is the easiest option.

If you fly to Eindhoven you will need to get a bus into the city centre and get a train from there. It's not much hassle, but it's just more direct from Amsterdam.

You could also fly to Brussels airport (the real one, not the Ryanair one) and get a train from there with a change.

Thanks, I'll check that out. My daughter hopes to run the marathon there next April.

    Are you running again?

+1 on the Amsterdam airport option, it's very easy, no changes.

there's 2 types of train, fyra and normal. Fyra costs about 9e more and is 20minutes faster than the normal train.

also, dont get caught out, the ticket machines don't accept non dutch cards, and the ones in most stations don't take notes, so bring enough euro coins, and keep them handy

Nah, that was my one and only marathon. I've left the long lonely distance running behind in favour of short snappy sprints on the track :)

Very well organised marathon. She'll enjoy it (as much as is possible to enjoy running for 42.2 kilometres anyway).

EDIT: This thread may prove useful over the coming months:

Good tip – do the ATMs and shops take Laser/Maestro?

I almost got caught out by the machines in Hook of Holland, after getting ferry from Essex overnight. Luckliy i had enough coins in my luggage for me and my travelling companion.

ATM's stake CIRRUS so most Irish cards will work. I only use Visa/Mastercard when
travelling, but I'd doubt the shops do take Laser/Maestro.
