Do you replace diesel glow plugs at regular intervals or only when they stop working ? Thanks

well obviously if they stop working you need to replace them, but ideally if you're not sure about them but they're still working just replace them anyway.

i think they are considered a consumable, similar to a spark plug.
my wifes car which has just 93,000km on it had to get 3 of them changed last week as they failed and the engine management light came up and it pointed to the plugs after a diagnostic check.

From reading online, some forums have quoted them lasting well over 200,000 miles.

So I was a bit surprised that her car had to get them replaced at effectively 65000miles. However, her car is 6.5 yrs old and does a lot of short journeys daily, probably to the tune that the car is started 6-7 times a day which obviously would shorten the life.

The car itself still started and ran no problem, but coming into the winter I would say that would have made it more difficult to start on a really cold day.

    Whats your mileage/age of car?

I'm just getting them renewed on an 06 Passat with 135K miles after two failed. car started fine but was gone a bit loud and gruff from it, especially on a cold morning.

A normal consumable on a diesel.

Now I must get the spark plugs changed too :pac:
