    Hi Folks,

When we bought our car a few months back the glove-box was knackered in the sense that it simply won't open. I'm finally ready to tackle it! Are they easy to replace if you don't mind putting the time in. Do I need to remove any major sections of the interior such as the centre console? Would a scrapyard be the best place to pick up a replacement?

At the moment when you press the release there's no give with it so it doesn't open. Perhaps the latch is broken/stuck.... I dunno. I figured if it wasn't too difficult a job simply replacing it would be the way to go.

I'd try putting the key in it to open the lock and then use a hacksaw blade or thin metal ruler to see if it can be opened, it's possible some latch has come loose.

When it's opened the usual way they come off on most cars is there's a screw on either the left or right side of the hinges and you open this and then you pull the glove-box out by compressing in the sides so that it slides out. Worst problem you are likely to have is the replacement will be for a different key, not sure how easy or if it's possible to transfer your old lock across.

I had a look at it earlier and there's actually no lock on the glove box. The latch that should free it is loose and doesn't seem to make any contact with the locking mechanism.

Would it just be a case of opening it with brute force and then replacing the whole thing?

If you look under the dash there are 2 plastic pins with a tab on their ends that form the hinge. Pop these out and the whole thing should easily open
