Offence mistakenly recorded after receiving probation act??

I recently applied for a firearms cert. I received a request from the super intendent for information regarding my previous charges etc as I had ticked the relevant box on the application.

Anyway, I went to my local station to find out the exact descriptive regarding my previous offences. I have never been convicted of an offence in court- i have received the probation act for all three offences.
However when I spoke to my local garda he told me I had a conviction for section 15 of the drugs act (sale or supply). I did go to court for this years ago and was given the probation act plus had to make a donation to a local charity. Obviously this has comas quite a shock to me as i have always thought I did not have a record against my name.
There has to be some sort of mistake(I hope), does anyone know what i can do to try and resolve the matter? Is it possible there was a mistake made by the court clerk on the day or the Garda in question mistook the €1000 donation for a conviction.

Naturally, I'm quite pi**ed off and worried that this conviction is hanging over my head when I was under the impression that my name was clear and I had moved on from the years of being an idiot when I was younger.

If anyone has any advice or has heard of similar stories, I would very much appreciated your help.

    Thank you in advance...

when i applied for my first firearms cert they were asking questions about something that happened when i was 14! They looked at the records and spoke to the guard who arrested me who actually helped me getting the licence by giving a good report. Heard of a few people being refused for drug offences and one licence being revoked and the guards coming and taking his guns for drugs. Go through wit the application and see the super if you can but i Wouldn't hold my breath that you will get it

Thanks for the reply Kildare. I've never actually been convicted in court of a drugs offence- so not sure what the problem is.
I did, however, come across this

but you were arrested for one which could make all the difference and by the sound of it you did do somethin yeah? At the end of the day its the super who makes the decision and only him and it doesn't matter if you were not convicted he can still refuse ya no. Have you spoken to him yet? Shooting forum would prob be a better place for the thread altho the only person who will be able to answer your question is your super

The gardai have access to all your record, not just your convictions. Not really surprising they won't licence a drug dealer to have a firearm really.

Ah yeah, I did do something wrong alright. It's just that I was under the impression that the license app required actual convictions.

This is a question i wanted to pose to the legal forum as it's really to see if anyone here had any advice as to hwy the Pulse system shows I have a conviction- even though I technically don't. I would like to see if anyone here has come across this before etc??

Thanks for your input though, I post on the shooting forum regularly under my 'everyday' username, Everyone is very helpful over there. I haven't actually spoken to the super personally as he only requested info and not refused me or anything. Once I find out that my name doesn't have a conviction against it I can provide him with the info he wants.

    Cheers....

I'm fully aware of the information the gardai possess on me and everyone else- that was not the question. The question was why it was listed that I had a conviction when intact I don't.

Thanks for your advice regarding my license, although I haven't actually been refused a license at all. And I'm not a drug dealer- I messed up when I was young and was unlucky to be charged with a section 15 at the time but thats not the point really- I did what I did at the time and that's life... People change and that's exactly what I did the day i got arrested. I didn't start this thread to discuss people's opinions on whether a particular individual should be entitled to bear the right to hold a firearm or not, but thanks anyway for your input.
