Basically, thinking of getting a better PA, think 24 channel non-powered mixer into bins and tops.

Was thinkin of getting these active bins and passive tops, would that work, as theres a crossover in the bins, would that mean that the power from the active bin would power the passive top, or would i need active tops or a separate power amp or what?
    Any help is appreciated!

The fact that there is a crossover in the subs means that the signal it sends to the tops would be without a chunk of the low end. So if you wired your mixer to the bins first and put a bass drum through it the low end of the drum would come out of the bin while the top end (like the "click" off the skin) would come out of the tops.

This means that the bin saves you muddying (or destroying!) your tops with frequencies the bin is in charge of so to speak.

With regards to powering the tops, no it would not. 400w is about right for abin in a band or DJ situation and even if it could send power to a passive top it'd all be a little weedy and underpowered.

Get a good amp and a set of passive bins and tops and you're sorted. Powered speakers are fine as monitors but the amps in them are never as high quality as a separates so I have found them inclined to burn out quicker.

    Hope that helps.
