hey, a recruitment agency will take your cv, assess your experience and and qualifications and try and match it up to available jobs they have through their clients. They basically get a commission for employees they find for a company. The best thing to do if you are going through a recruitment agency is to keep in contact with the agent who is dealing with you. If they know you and know the type of job that you are looking for then you will be on their radar as jobs come in.
If you're looking to stick to a job in retail it may be a good idea to look in shop windows (I'm sure you've probably done that) or even ask in stores. A lot of retailers won't advertise their jobs online.
