    Hey guys,

Just picked up a 3TB hardrive, it's only giving me an option for 2TB :( I can't format the rest of it

    Advice?

    Thanks

    Tal

Format it as a logical drive. MBR drives have a 2TB limit in Windows.

It won't let me select anything, see the screenshot, all greyed out!

Same when I use the programmes above!

You need to delete the 2TB partition first

    Cool, let me try that

Get rid of the active partition and you'll be left with a 3TB unallocated drive. You can then create a new partition which utilizes the whole disk.

Not sure what the limitations file system wise there is for FAT32 v NTFS etc.

Deleted it, and am left with 2.73TB

Try to create a logical Partition and it won't scroll past 2TB

    Getting frustrated :D

Try it with the standard Windows tool

No, the same... Even if I can get 2 partitions (one 2TB and one 1TB) I'll be happy, but it's like the 3rd TB doesn't exist

Looks like You're hitting the a 2Gb limit for Windohs.

Might be better to just have two separate filesystems ( drive letters ) one with 2gb and one with the rest. ?

    Have a look here.

You could change your cluster size to 8192 but you may lose some space.

It does it by changing the block/cluster size ;)

Oh dear jesus, I had to click the little drive icon on the left :(

It then let me convert it to a GPT disk and bang

Yes, I had this exact problem and it took a google to figure, MBR only supports up to 2TB
