It's not exactly run of the mill and it'll probably have broken down by now, so it'll hopefully be spotted soon.

I'll keep an eye out to the south of the county anyway. But you might want to pull that reg plate unless you can prove it. You might be right and everything, but without proof...

It would be dumped within walking distance of where they live. Happens a lot close to where I am at a walk through to a local estate.

Yes, there's 3 kinds of car theft:

    1) Professionals steal cars for cash or for use in robberies. These guys steal high end stuff, break into homes for keys, threaten people etc.

    2) Kids steal cars for joyriding. They prefer imported Japanese cars which are quick but lack immobilisers.

    3) People steal cars just to drive home. They take anything that's easily stolen, so usually older models without immobilisers, alarms, tricky locks etc.

The good thing about type 3 is that unlike type 1, they can't be arsed burning your car when they are finished with it, and unlike type 2, they're not interested in ramming stuff.

I can never understand how thieves break the steering lock. I've often practiced on aul scrap cars we have at home. Breaking in, no bother. Getting her started, no bother. Overcoming that (thankfully) pesky steering lock, impossible! How do they do it?

Saw thru the steering wheel, or bend it enough so the lock and move, comes loose. Happened to my car a few years back, Answer- Total steering lock, that covers the whole wheel :)

Your using your arms to do it. You should be using your legs and body weight in a swift motion. I saw one snapped in a polo in about five seconds.

Yep, cut and bend, off slides the lock! Car thieves really are someting, hard to keep up to them.

Cut off switches, decent alarm GPS. Its mental, what you need on your car.

I don't think that's the kind of steering lock newmug is talking about. He means the one where you take your keys out of the ignition, and the steering locks in place, you can't turn the wheel.

Except that you can, if you are strong. Turn the wheel hard enough, the lock breaks, and you can drive away. They should really make the lock stronger than some component holding the wheel on: turn it hard enough and the wheel would come off in your hands before the lock breaks.

it would be a good idea about the steering wheel snaping of before the lock! altough modern cars now dont need this as they are hard enough to steal im going to get a snap of steering wheel for both my cars now as well! as its the greatest deternt there is!

I'm glad the car was found in a relatively decent state, things like this make me smile :)

My usual weapon of choice. One good swing does it
    Ball-Peen-Hammer1.jpg

Or in some cases I just used my arms. Some of the locks are so good that the wheels bend if I don't use a hammer.

Why do I do this? Getting a set of stalks is an inconvenience in a scrap yard when most of the cars have no key...

OP does your Granada have chubb locks? I find some of these difficult to break...

    Steering lock, get you. Zubeneschamali.

My mistake, d'oh :o i've found that of all the cars i've owned

the older BMW's have one of the toughest barrel locks,(once had to

replace mine) not sure of the newer ones though.
