    Hi everyone

I have a question involving a insurance claim.

Last night my car was broken into, the window smashed and the radio was ripped out and sat nav taken from the glovebox.

The gardas were called and they towed it away for finger print testing.

I was wondering if I have to pay for the car to be towed as it was a private guy used by the gardas and the car was stored there over night.

If I dont have to pay for this then i wont claim from my insurance as its just the window and i have a spare radio so not bothered by that.

So I only need to know if I'm responsible for cost of the towing and storage over noght.

    Thanks for any help.

Somebody will have to pay. Your insurer will cover these costs and furthermore may not treat it as an at fault claim. Perhaps ring them and discuss the matter with them?

    .
    Is this the normal procedure?
Why can't they do the finger print testing on the spot?

Generally only take if in the way. I'd have objected personally.

You will need to check directly with your insurer but generally you are only covered for towing/storage if it is one of your insurers preferred garages/recovery companies that is used.

So the insured suffers as a result of the Gardai making a decision. I've never heard of this. Call your insurer OP

I would of thought if the Guards wanted to tow it away to take prints, they would of covered the towing and storage charge?
