3gs no recognising sim

    Hi,
    I bought an Iphone 3GS for my boyfriend for his birthday. I got it directly from Apple.ie. He opened it this morning and, when he put in his Meteor Sim, it says No sim card installed. I tried putting my meteor sim in and the same this came up. I rang Apple and they said it's unlocked, so must be to do with Meteor. I went to the Meteor shop and asked for a new sim, as both our sims are older, and this too didn't work. I tried a Vodafone sim too and this didn't work either. I spent 45 mins on the phone to Apple and they don't know what is wrong. I am so annoyed, as I spent €349 on this, and they now want me to post it back to them and for a replacement. Has anyone else had a problem like this. I am so frustrated.

    I havent had the problem you're having, but I will say this for Apple warranty and service: they are excellent. I know you're frustrated, but in my personal experience, yuo won't find a better company when it comes to service. My iPhone microhone started acting up, so Apple sent a courier out to pick it up off me at work, and I had a replacement hand delivered by courier 3 working days later...this was after th ephone had been to England for inspection.

    Sorry to hear you're having trouble, the phone shouldn't be acting up, but rest assured it will be looked after if you do end up sending it back.

    Or disabling the sim pin before trying it in the 3GS?

    Yeah, I disabled the pin, and even went to up Meteor, who transferred by boyfriends number onto a brand new sim, so it's not like there are scratches on the sim, so it won't read. The apple support guy was very helpful and said they'll send me out a replacement, but if there is a fault with this one, can they charge me?

    They can't charge you for a replacement if it's faulty and under warranty, even if it is a second replacement.

    Just watch out for the dates on the warranty: you get a 12 month warranty from the date of purchase of the ORIGINAL product. So let's say your phone gets replaced 9 months after buying it, the new replacement phone will only be covered for a further 3 months, so that you get 12 months cover for your money. Apple doesn't start a new 12 month warranty every time it sends you a replacement product.
