    Hi
Does anyone know who the 'Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Ireland' are. I see, on their website that they offer accreditation, but I've never heard of them until recently.

Yeah they are now under an umbrella of the Irish College of Humanities & Applied Sciences. It's hard to keep track, luckily marketing misspellings and grandiose HETAC claims are reliable indicators :)

What do people think of them? I get the impression that people think that they're not as good as they claim to be. Is accreditation with them of any value or more importantly are their counsellors trained to the appropriate standard?.

Someone making the above claims approached me regarding peer supervision eg she is a practicing counsellor with a BA accredited by HETAC and the APCP. I dont want to get involved with chancers. I'm not sure what to do!!

DON’T DO IT!! I would suggest strongly that if you believe that any group are worthy of the title “chancer” based on their place of study, accreditation, experience etc, it would then be inappropriate for you to take this person on as a supervisee. As the relationship between supervisor and supervisee is an integral part of the procedure, your preconceptions (however understandable) would surely be detrimental to the process? If she/he contacts the APCP directly I’m sure they will be able to provide her with a list of APCP supervisors which may be for her, a better match.

For the second time Enhtie, do you have any connection with APCP? I don't want to drag the thread off topic, but I do think that if people have a vested interest, it should be declared.

For the second time, I am not a member of APCP however, I have been both working and studying in the area of counselling for the past fifteen years and I certainly do have an interest in the profession as a whole.

I have tried to access the APCP website for several months and all I get is the site is under construction or something like that. Does anybody know anything about this organisation?
