Unknown Fungus in the flat...

We've recently discovered that some of the clothes and shoes in our wardrobes are growing a strange fungus...which we have also noticed growing on a suitcase under one of the beds and on small spots on some walls. One of the walls is an outside wall, but was is perplexing is our wardrobes are not. The clothes were not put away damp and the shoes were covered in the fungus but they were wrapped in boxes AND tissue and neither the tissue or the boxes had the mold on them. Some of the clothes in the wardrobes have fungus on them, but not all of them, and there is none on the walls of the wardrobes. Any ideas of what this may be? It is easily washed off the walls, but we are concerned its return will ruin more of our things in the wardrobe...jGE7puRN

you have mould/mildew due to a lack of ventilation, possibly a lack of insulation or indeed dampness coming through your walls/floor/ceiling from an external source. which is heightened in stagnant air, in cupboards/ presses where clothes are often stored.

if you don't own the flat, and if you can, move the cupboards away from the walls about 100mm, this will help air to circulate behind it. also open the windows more regularly, and use the fans in kitchen and bathroom more regularly.
