Is it ok to freeze a pheasant after you've cleaned them. We shot four yesterday, but we don't want to eat the all straight away

It is. Some like to hang them for a while, while others prefer them just the way they are. The choice is yours.

Sorry, I slid onto the floor laughing when I read your thread, we used to hold largest cock in the parish comps each year. This guy Rambo used to win each year with same feckin Pheasant, He used to defrost it each year just in time for the competition! Thats years ago now, but I couldn't help laughing when I seen your question. Anyway just having a giggle. Sorry I don't know how to freeze them myself, I used to rip the breast meat out, throw the rest away and stew some cooking apples as sauce, nummy.

Best of luck with your season, all the best.

    cheers:):):):)

Big cocks and wives aside;) - I would freeze the pheasant breast meat only. It makes for a better results on defrosting in terms of handling etc. these new freezer bags make things even easier in that regard:)

I like to hang them for about 2-3 days myself, but there's no way I'd be able to eat four pheasants straight away after cleaning them out. I'd just like to have one today, and another next week and so on.

Hang them as normal, then clean them out and freeze in a suitable freezer bag. When you need one, take it out of the freezer the day before use and put it in the fridge to thaw out slowly. That way it will lose minimal amount of juice. Pheasant is fine up to six months in a freezer.

Thanks, that's good info there. I never would have thought of thawing them out in the fridge
