I have plenty of annual leave left and am contemplating heading for Lanzarote for a week in December to use some of it up. Has anyone been there in December training before? I see 20C is about average which would be fine. As much as id love 30+ i know i aint going to find that anywhere near here this time of the year! Flights are decent (80+bike) and right now there's a cheap apartment going in Costa Teguise on Citydeal (106 for a week!)

So anyone any comments or would anyone fancy coming :D

Been there in Nov and Feb and temps in the middle of the day normally meant running was out of the question.

I run early morning or late evening in Peurto Del Carmen along the bike/running track that goes on from the old town all the way out to the airport and past it.

Just brought a few euro coins in my shorts for the odd bottle of water.

I have to say i really enjoyed it.

Loads of hills to get out of the towns to make use of the bike:)

Was there in mid december and it was fine to run any time of the day. Always thought it was a great place to train and used to see lots of TT bikes & triathlete sorts out training.

Also some good bike rental places with will allow you bring your own pedals if you want. Some decent high grade bikes as well in them.

Cheers lads. All i need now is someone to go with :P

Waiting on a friends response. Whereabouts were you Gringo78? Im just wondering what the running is like around Costa Teguise. The island is so small that i can imagine it doesn't really matter where you are for cycling.

You could always splash out and head to www.clublasanta.com
I think it's the kind of place you'd get pro cycling teams or triathletes and the like going for their winter training.

we've been to la santa for one of their training camps. It was a great way to meet other triahletes when I was very **green** about the whole thing but now would think it's much to expensive for what you get. I've been to Lanza in January and it's a perfect winter training destination. Wish we could go this year. Must talk to Zuppy.

Cost a small fortune when I priced it up lastyear.
Im looking at a week cycling with this lot to use up days before the end of the year. http://www.cyclegrancanaria.com/

I also have a load of leave to take and would be interested in doing a weeks cycling training in the Canaries. Perhaps a group from boards could get together and travel over for a week.

Was there for xmas 3 years ago and found it was cold some days, so much so I had to wear a coat

It's ok during the day when the sun is highest but when it goes, so does the heat.

I think I'm gonna hit GC in Feburary to get an early start on my 2012 tan.

Have been cycling in the canaries for Christmas in 2009 and 2010. In 2009 i was in tenerife for just over two weeks and in 2010 spent 3 and a half weeks around Maspalomas in Gran Canaria. I should be in a position to have 3 weeks available this year as well, to be honest i am thinking of splitting the break between tenerife and gran canaria this year as both have their good points. I tend to operate off a very limited budget and there are no frills and last year spent less than 750 including flights transfers accommodation and all food.
I haven't been to lanzarote but if it can put together cheap could be persuaded to go. The biggest advantage for tenerife and gran canaria is that i nknow the lay of the land and wouldn't need to spend any time acquainting myself with the roads etc.
Weatherwise i didn't see rain at any point in the two years but both times was told i was very lucky as it had been very wet in the weeks preceding. I struggle in the heat (pale skin, red hair, freckles) but found the temperature (low to mid 20's)ideal for short sleeves and shorts (armwarmers and gilet recommended for the descents)
Currently it looks as if i will be free from Mid December(17th ish) to Mid-Jan (15th ish) if that is of any use to anyone. if anyone else requires any more info reply to this thread or pm me.

I am pretty flexible myself as to when to use up the leave I have as long as I use it up before April 1st next. If we could (whoever is interested) agree on a date we could plan the rest (location, flights, accomodation, whether to hire bikes or take our own etc from their)

This is the one i got - http://www.groupon.ie/deals/getaways (Nazaret Apartments) and it only has 2 odd hrs left. for 106 quid i took the plunge, i dont really care how plain and basic it is so it will do the job perfect. allows 2 adults on it so at 53quid each its a steal!

I think thats the general area where I was (within a km anyways) - apartment was unreal cheap and I was worried it was going to be a dive but it was great - facilities were great. The restaurants around are all unbelievably cheap also for eating out at that time fo the year. Always thought it would be such a cheap training holiday. I went running with the kid in a buggy for some runs even, first time I had done that.

Make sure you bring your wetsuit. I was there in March and assumed the sea would be toasty. Far from it. Had to get out after 30 mins with a headache. Looked like a muppet with a heavy hoody on me that night and everyone else in tees or the likes! :o

My friend unfortunately cant make it so i was wondering if anyone here was interested in heading Dec 16th to 23rd. Flights are 93 + bike (80 return) with Ryanair. Car hire prob about 75 each and apartment 53 each! So a total of around 300 + whatever spending money but seeing as its an apartment with full facilities i wouldnt imagine much would be needed.

Just reigniting this thread a bit. Im all set to book but am just checking if anyone fancies heading along. In the end the Citydeal boyos are not firming on any dates so im looking at just booking a cheap apartment. Flights are 110 + bike charges etc and accommodation is about 90 each (basic apartment). Anyone fancy a trip?

Im also open to going the Friday to Wednesday (16th -21st) ir people wanted a short trip and wanted to be home before the 23rd. Flights are the same, accom is slightly cheaper
