Just taken from HTC's FB page

HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we're thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades.

Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound*, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G* and HTC Amaze 4G* through close integration with our carrier partners.

We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.

ICS may probably be the first Android that's as buttery smooth as the iOS.

Eh, iOS is not as smooth as people make it out to be, people with iPads are reporting numerous application freezes and complete OS crashes. If you actually use it and tinker with it a lot you'll get plenty of crashes.

    iOS5 has its problems too

Oh excellent, is there any information released on what exactly will change once we upgrade to ICS?

I'm not sure but I'm keeping a close eye on the custom ROMs floating around on XDA. There's already an ICS rom or two, but without all the features. Once CyanogenMod9 comes out, I'll be jumping all over it.
I'm not sure if there's any major new features. Its basically all just improvements, like better keyboard and spell checkers, resizable widgets, folders, better multitasking, and a better camera, which supports face recognition for unlocking the phone.

Its meant to be able to support any phone thats capable of running Gingerbread 2.3 so while it may benefit having a brand spanking new phone, it should be fine on any single core ~1Ghz phone.
