Hi I am soon to buy a 2002 Ford Mondeo 1.8L Petrol Hatchback model
I am buying it from a car dealer.
    • Just enquiring how much is The car Tax for the Year?
    • The Cardealer is going to put it through the N.C.T for me,before I get it, Will I get one or two years on it?
    • Will it take long to get car a booking for test?
If anyone can tell me ,thanks

Probably not, dealers are generally in the know with NCTS

I am thinking of buying one of these in the new year. Any things I should specifically look for when buying? Are they generally a good solid car?

They like burning oil, big concern really, especially buying one, you won't know is it a guzzler or not.

Re OPs NCT enquiry, you'll get two years from date of expiry of the last NCT.

had one myself and know half dozen others that have had the 1.8 and all including mine was a guzzler, lovely car to drive and not 1 problem with it just was to hard on the pocket to keep on the road

Early Mk 3 Mondeo petrols suffered from butterfly valves in the intake manifold failing and being ingested into the engine. If you are considering buying one this is worth reading. (Link)

Thanks for the replies lads - I think its a lot of car for small money.

They're a fine big, comfy car in fairness to them. Available for tiny money now too so if you get one that isn't burning oil they are a decent buy.

    That's incorrect.
Nearest NCT due is in 2012.

If NCT was to be done today (7th November 2011) then there are two option.

    1. Car was first registered before 7th February 2002, and therefore will get NCT for a year a this is 10th anniversary test, so disc will be valid until early 2013.

    2. Car was first registered between 7th February 2002 and 31st December 2002, then NCT will be valid to the day earlier the car was registered in 2012 year. F.e if car was first registered on 15 July 2002, then NCT will be valid until 14th July 2012

In both cases NCT won't be for 2 years.

I'm about to Purchase a new car..Can anyone help me with a few queries..
    • The car I am going to buy is a 2002 model 1.8L, and I am buying it from a car sales garage,They have had the car in for some time. The last tax expired in Jan 2010..When I get the Log Book back What will i need to do to re-tax if for year,as garage has had it since then?
    • The Garage told me they will bring it for its N.C.T on Monday next,But the last NCT on it ran out in March 2010. How long will I get now on it? - The garage man is bringing it to NCT Centre.

It's easy to fix, 4 hour work for amateur to take off butterfly valves or you can buy four new butterfly valves from ford dealer and replace (to replace you must have in good condition square bar from butterfly valves), it cost approximately 50 euro.

I replace myself butterfly valves for new in my 2002 mondeo.

I got from ford blanchardstown, part number is: 1S7G 9Y428 AA and FINIS code: 1317276. It was cost 10 euro each on may 2011. It's the same part for 2001-2007 mondeo but ford system told that is only compatible with mondeo after facelifting 2003-2007, don't listen this, it's nonsense i fit in my 2002 mondeo and it's exactly 100% the same part. They just want sold you brand new manifold for 300 euro ;)
