Does anyone know of a way to scan directly to pdf using windows fax & scan? I'm aware that I can scan and then print as pdf and I know that the printer software has this ability but I printer software is just too messy and takes too long to navigate.

There's no way to get Fax & Scan to dump output directly to PDF. About as close as you'll get is scanning to a TIFF and then using something like Cute PDF Writer to print the TIFF to a PDF.

If you have MS Office 2007 or later you can scan to file insert the image into Word and save as a PDF.

The epson software for my printer/scanner (DX9400F) scans and converts to pdf instantly. What printer do you have?

Thanks for the replies. I have cute pdf but its a pain scanning to TIFF and then converting to pds. TIFFS seem to have much bigger file sizes so I have to delete them after converting.

I use a Canon Mx410 but the Canon software takes so long to run, I just prefer windows scan . Is there any third party scanning software that anyone is aware of I could download?

This is all I could find without you having to pay for the software, but I haven't used it:

what scanner do you have ?

have you checked for the latest drivers, some provide apps to scan to print.

setup pdf printer as your default printer and it's possible that your mother's sister's husband's name is Robert

and pdfcreator from sourceforge is yer only man for pdf printing as one of the many many options allows you to auto save

complain to canon or buy a cheapo secondhand scanner with the sw you want. :pac:

is it still cheaper to buy a scanner with photoshop essentials than to buy the software on it's own ?

I just got a new HP Photosmart 5510 and it scans to PDF - wirelessly - in seconds.

Methinks you might just be wanting to consider a better unit. And, if you scan lots of documents, something with a belt scanner. In my last job I had stacks of a hundred or so floor plans I needed to scan in one at a time. Hhheelllll no. Beltfeed them all in as one document and then use PDFSAM to split each page of the file into individual PDFs and I was golden.
