Can de-branded HTC Desire be downgraded

I have an O2 HTC Desire that I de-branded using a Gold Card and has Android 2.3.3 installed. Bootloader is 1.02.0001. Constantly getting low memory warnings and have to clear caches on apps to free up memory. Is it possible to downgrade to 2.2 even if I have to re-brand? Not interested in rooting at the moment, at least until I am out of contract with O2. Any help appreciated.

I don't know the answer to your actual question but I don't think that reverting will solve your low memory issue with the Desire.

If you've used a gold card are you not already rooted?

I rooted mine a different way so not up to scratch with gold cards.

If you are rooted I recommend flashing leedroid 3.3.3 desire HD ROM with a 1gb SD partition and without the sense 3 add on. I get low space once or twice a month it usually magically fixes itself and hovers over 15mb no matter how much apps I add or remove.

AFAIK there is no way to downgrade or roll back official updates apart from flashing roms over it. A factory reset could put it back to its out of the box state but it might not, risky option! I've 145 user apps and 187 system apps and still have 20mb internal memory free.

When I had android 2.2 installed I was able to install a lot more apps, so getting back to that would do fine.
De-branding with a Goldcard is not the same as rooting. It just allows you to install stock builds and updates without having to wait for O2 to push them out.
