Hi. Im looking for a bit of guidance regarding preping a bumper for paint. The problem with my bumper is that is was resprayed sometime in the past and the paint has started to flake off as can be seen in the picture.

Do I need to sand back the bumper to the plastic or just back until i get it smooth?
Also what grades of sand paper should I start with and finish with?

    Thanks for you help!

I would use various grits of wet and dry sandpaper. There are plenty video tutorials on youtube showing prep work needed to be done.

It's a tricky surface TBH with all the pitting. If you keep sanding on that, you're going to end up with weird troughs and hills that you can't see with the eye. A bodyshop would feather the edges of the pitting, and then fill the affected areas, sand smooth with a block, then prime.

    R56 MINI?

Thanks Owen. Yea its a R56 MINI cooper s. It's been like that for a good while as I planned to fit the JCW kit but ive done a good few other mods and can't justify the 1500 for the kit. I have found a new bumper painted in red that was taken of a new car that had the kit fitted so it might just be cheaper and easier to get that. Only problem it that the bumper has storage marks. Not quite sure how one defines storage marks though...
