Touchpad drivers - do they work for all laptops ?

I've a samsung rv511 but the touchpad doesnt work like it should, it's supposed to be able to scroll up/down and pinch to zoom etc but it doesnt work.

Do i need a specific driver to make it work or will most work with my laptop ?

I downloaded another one but cant figure it out.

Can't find a RV511 on the Samsung website, so try downloading and installing the RV510 touchpad driver

the instructions say to uninstall any touchpad drivers that are already on it, would this not turn the touchpad off completely no ?

Just to answer your question, I think when you remove the 'driver' from the Add/Remove programs list your really actually only removing a software layer that adds things like the extra functionality you were asking about. It's not the actual driver.
