my dog had to get 4 stitches behind his ear on tuesday, would it be safe to work him whilst they are in?

If your rough shooting and sending the Springer into ditches with brambles I would say no if it's just accross heather you might be ok but if it was me I would give the dog the week to recover some others may have other advice cheers.

Not the advice you want to hear but I definitely wouldn't work him until the cut has healed / scab has grown over it.

My cocker jumped a barbed wire fence last Tuesday morning (Opening Day) and got a nasty cut on her chest. I let her rest on Wednesday & Thursday and cut seemed to be closing & healing so took her out Friday.....everything okay....and again on Saturday.

On returning home on Saturday evening I noticed that the cut had opened wide and seemed to be very swollen. The dog was licking it a lot. Took her to the vet.

Vet said an infection had set in....reason for the swelling & opening of the wound. Had to have hair around wound trimmed, washed out and treated with antiseptics. Now on a course of anti-inflammatories & anti-biotics.

Vet said the infection was more that likely from dirt entering wound....mud, dirty water drains or stagnant water. Advised not to allow her out until scab had formed over wound to protect it...probably a week to ten days!

Vet's fees cost €91 including tablets. Not going to risk taking her out until she's on the mend.

Very disappointing! - but it could have been worse & hopefully she'll be back in action next weekend or, if not, the weekend after.
