Accident in Hairdresser's

    Hi there,

A friend of mine had an accident in hairdresser's. His ear was severely cut, no medical assistance was offered, so he had to ask to call ambulance. He has a scar on the ear for life now.

In a while after discussing this matter with an owner he was offered 2k without involving solicitors and taking case to the court.

Just wonder if 2k is an adequate amount for this kind of injury?

    Thanks a lot!

Go check a thing called the "PIAB book of quantum". Also, when did this happen?

2K is nowhere near enough. Instruct a solicitor.

Thanks a lot to everyone! It really looks the best thing to do is to involve solicitors.

There's no mention as to what part of the body is affected in that sample case in the Book of Quantum, it just states soft tissue injury, no mention of the head!

If a scar is normally visible, the awards can be higher than those where scars are normally covered.

I would say the correct value-band for this type of injury is €12-20k. I would imagine it's somewhere in there. If there is any tissue missing and/or a noticeable scar at conversational distance we are then looking at High Court jurisdiction (38k plus).

Wow I would happily take a cut to the ear for €10,000, where is this hairdressers OP?

The point i was trying to make was that ladypip quoted the figures saying "This is from the piad book of quantum for soft tissue damage to head", but in fact the sample case gives no mention of the head or any part of the body for that matter. That sample case could easily have been soft tissue damage to the back or shoulder, whereas a laceration to the ear is more noticeable, especially on a guy so i would expect it to be more than that.

Bad idea... and frankly, if you're planning on taking a case, I would refrain from posting anything else here

    DO NOT name the hairdresser.

My mistake i thought that was in the head section but it was just above it.

I will suggest to this person to talk to a solicitor.
No need to mention a hairdresser, this is right.
Thanks a lot to everyone - really appreciate all opinions!
