    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00mx9xb

Back 4 times a week for the next 6 weeks.

Looks similar to last year's format (a big group cooking for Greg and Monica at the start of the week, with the best cooking for Michel towards the end of the week).

    Looking forward to it...

Nice one, its my favourite Materchef programme.

Good start to the series. Love the faces Monica pulls when she doesn't like something. :)

Not sure about Sean Pertwee as narrator though. Maybe he'll grow on me.

This was the first I saw of the early Masterchef rounds with Monica - she is just brilliant. I think about four of those lads were about to cry.

Just switched over to this one tonight .................. this is the format of the show that I love.........skills test and under pressure. VG

Love Thursdays with the critics.....they were very harsh tonight!!!!!!

Claire is going all the way to the finals..... her food was amazing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,655 ✭✭✭1966

Yeah she pulled out all the stops last night. Faultless cooking.

Claire's food was amazing but the poor thing, the pressure really upset her it seemed. Hope she goes all the way!
Imagine Michhel Roux asking for your recipe!

Some main course she served alright. I love the way she wears her heart on her sleeve. Had Steve down for a banker but he had an off night last night.

Love the way Michel Roux is always encouraging the chefs on,always positive.
Could have smacked Greg the way he treated Lori when she went over time on her mains-ok it's gonna be late, stop harping on:mad:

I'm delighted that Claire has gotten through I liked her from the start of the week.

How many will be in the semi finals 8?

This is definitely my favourite of the Masterchef series, Monica and Michel Roux add a level of class to the show, although I am a fan of John Torode as well.

Have to disagree with you..... Can't take to Monica at all. Just give me Greg & John ( not embracing change ) !!!

Oh dear god no. That one change has completely ruined the show for us here.

Ah I think I've got used to him now. :)

Monica is one tough cookie, does she ever smile??

I have seen her smile on many occasions.

He's an absolute gent, a world apart from Ramsey and his bullying ways

Yeah, he always seems really lovely. Monica is far more daunting to cook for!

Michel Roux is the definition of 'sexy older man'.

Great semi last night. I think he has to be the favourite now ?

    Tonight looks really tough.

It's a pity the two last night were pitted against each other.
    The standard is very good.

How close was that last night ??????

Ash is my favourite to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 494 ✭✭missbelle

I am addicted to MasterChef, yet can't & hate cooking ;):p
Loved that they put the last two semi-finalists through, they were both brilliant!

You know, I never though I could say this, but the whole part of showing the dishes they'll be cooking in these restaurants - is actually rather boring.

Those kitchens look more like operating theatres, or laboratories with all the precision and tools they're using. I mean, tweezers to take a small piece and to place it neatly and accurately on a plate, having to be perfect to the millimetre? That's not for me. Just pick up and féck it on the plate, I say.

do any of you think Ollie was hard done by, he reached the final last week fair & square..but because the judges couldn't choose between Steve and Claire, he gets knocked out on monday in a de facto semi final..bit harsh

Ash was a deserving winner i think. He was fantastic throughout. Claire has a great future. What a talent at just 22.

it was a good final , but I think a bit more thought needs to be put into the programme , look at Masterchef Australia , it's a million times better than the BBC version .
Still , love my cooking programme's , you can learn so much from them

    I have the same opinions.

It's funny how we set ourselves up as armchair judges when we don't get to taste the food.

Professional is my favourite version of Masterchef, they have made the amateur version too much like the Aussie version.

Ash was a worthy winner, the standard in the final was amazing in general.

    What do they do differently?

Well done to Ash but I had hoped Claire would win. I think she has so much more potential than Ash but he was always very steady all the way through.
Anyone else think that any of those last three would have won any of the previous series of Masterchef The Professionals?
They are three ridiculously talented chefs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,383 ✭✭✭emeraldstar

I wanted Claire to win too but didn't mind Ash winning because he really was good, and a nice guy to boot. Steve seriously irritated the hell out of me though, so I was delighted that he didn't win.

I think Ash always looked like he was going to win this series. But Claire and Steve were very worthy contenders.
Hats off to Claire for always having immaculate makeup. no matter how stressful or hot it was in the kitchen! :) (not fair! ;))

i wonder does personality come into it?? someone's cooking might be exceptional but they're attitude might be iffy which may rub off the judges

steve was quite prickly at times

Seriously! I need to find out what mascara she wears - perfect at all times!
I thought it was a great series with a much higher standard than other years. I would love to eat Ash's food - I spotted him as a winner from the beginning. Streets ahead in my opinion! :)

The guy who won it 2 years ago - Steve i think - was also seriously talented.
