Diesel Vans Reliabilty.

On the way to training the other night my dad told me of his friend in dublin the week before, trying to start his 07 passat diesel for the journey home to cork only to be later told it needs a new injector. My dad was surprised at this as ''passats are fine cars" so i duly enlightened him on the reliabilty of modern diesels and the b6 passat. He was again amazed and asked why was everyone now buying diesels so  :pac: once again i answered this in a motors fashion.
He passed this on to a guy at work the next day and came home and asked me, why dont our vans (My dad works in the ESB) have the same problems with dpfs etc. when we do all short journeys in the city? The only reason i could think of was that van engines dont need to be as economical amd emvironmentally friendly as car engines amd therefore dont have the same technology in them. Is this right?
My fathers 2.4 transit has been perfectly fine so far in fairness.

It depends on what vans they have. Most of the latest generations of vans have all the same common rail technology, along with dmf's and dpf's, as cars.

They have all sorts really ND but mostly 4motion transporters and 140 transits.

Well up until the last year or two VW didn't use common rail.
Vans belonging to big fleets like the ESB, in general, tend not to do lots of short trips and usually just get sent to the dealer for schedualed maintenance and whatever needs replacing gets replaced.

Usually though they wouldve heard if they were giving major trouble though but nothing at all in any of my fathers dept outside of wear and tear and they all operate in the inner roster of the city
