I am considering applying to this college in the CAO. It offers a BA in Business Studies and Religion and the H.Dip is built into the degree so no need to do one afterwards, the degree at the end of it is issues by the University Of Limerick as the college is linked to it. I need 320 points to secure a place which should not be a problem but I wonder is this course credible considering you need 420 points to get into St Patrick's in Drumcondra, NUI Maynooth and UCD etc?

It's accredited by the DES and the TC so that's all that counts in terms of finding a teaching job!

And don't forget, the points for a course only reflect the demand for it, not the 'credibility' of the course itself. Not familiar with this course but just because the points for it are lower than those for other colleges does not mean it is worth any less. As UnLuckyAgain says, if the teaching council recognise it as qualifying you to teach then it is fine.

It's probably more to do with the fact that the college only offers two courses both of them teaching courses which are very specific. Business and Religion is an unusual enough combination. CAO points are all about supply and demand. If lots apply the points tend to go up as only the top applicants get an offer. If hardly any students apply points are going to be lower.

That coupled with the fact that students might possibly look up the course/college and go 'there's only two courses in the college', that means hardly any students ... I'm not going to Thurles for four years. Assuming there's no more than 40 on a course because it's a teaching course, that's 80 first years tops. So no more than 320 students in the college give or take a few. That's a small secondary school in terms of numbers. All the lecturers probably know all of the students by name.

The degrees are also accredited by UL.

I think the validation agreement with UL is a great bonus for those going to Thurles from now on. I think it opens more doors and is beneficial to have the association with Mary Immaculate. I think it is also positive for thurles in light of the concerns following the LIT takeover of Tipp Inst...

Was recently going by St. Pats in Drumcondra, i see they have destroyed some trees for the new entrance, hopefully they can return it to something like its previous state.
