Persistant issue with Wii

I am having a major problem with my Ninty Wii console.
It's using a component cable, initially to run 480p, and I found that I was increasingly getting flickering screen, the brightness was shifting and getting a few seconds of black screen.
I put it to 480i to see if it would help but no dice.

Anyone else have such a problem?
Unfortunately it is a launch console so a replacement is out of the question.

So, any ideas what the fup is going on?

I may try a regular, vanilla AV cable to see if, running at a boring PAL, composite 50hz it works any better.
I'm not terribly concerned about graphical definition on the little console tbh.

Anyways, I'd love to hear from others with ideas on this, or have you had the same issue and what did you do to fix it, thanks

Flickering and off colours on my wii happens when I've mixed up the pink audio cable with the pink video cable.
    Might be unlikely though.
