WoW the catholic church are not content with all their current scandals around the world, or shooting themselves in the foot everytime one of their leaders opens their mouth.

    Now they print porn mags.

What religion needs to own a publishers with a turnover of 1.7 billion a year.

What else do these crazy loons own?

Germany's biggest Catholic-owned publishing house has been rocked by disclosures that it has been selling thousands of pornographic novels with titles such as 'Sluts' Boarding School' and 'Lawyer's Whore' with the full assent of the country's leading bishops.

Weltbild, a company with an annual €1.7bn turnover and 6,400 employees.

It is Germany's 2nd largest bookseller and wholly owned by the Catholic Church.

The publisher's website also pictures the titles' lascivious dust jackets that feature colour photographs of scantily clad women in high heels and erotic underwear.

Catholic bishops responded with a statement claiming that "a filtering system failure" had allowed the books to stray on to the market.

the pornography scandal at Weltbild had been going on for at least a decade with the church's full knowledge.

Mr Muller said that in 2008, a group of Catholics had sent bishops a 70-page document containing irrefutable evidence that Weltbild published books that promoted pornography, Satanism and magic.

Believers have been complaining to their bishops about this for years.

It emerged yesterday that in an attempt to clear itself, the Catholic Church tried to sell Weltbild in 2009.

But the bishops apparently abandoned the idea after they failed to get the price they were asking.

More rabble rabble rabble papists rabble rabble rabble papists stuff.

If these publications aren't illegal then there is no issue for anybody but the Church and it's members. Its an internal issue.

But legality aside, surely it's questionable given the church's stance on pre-marital sex?

I wonder what kind of read you would get if you ordered a book about the Virgin Mary?

It's more about pointing out the hypocrisy of the church. Once again. No one is suggesting they shouldn't be able to sell dirty novels. I wonder do the people in these novels use contraception? :pac:

Porn/sex sells, and it sells well.

The catholic church represents a huge business model.

So to sum it up, huge Business makes more money.

Here she comes, the virgin mary. Always a good pious little girl our virgin mary, she prays hard does our virgin mary.

Then, one night the virgin mary meets 12 guys at supper and they get her locked on vodka red bulls, and the very next day poor mary does the walk of shame.

The Vatican have such a huge amount of assets that it's very hard for them to keep track of everything. If they were to micro-manage every single investment, they'd have no time for the real business of preaching the Gospel.

I'm not so sure its that simple, more a highlight of the contradictory stances that seem to arise in that church. From wikipedia:
Many are opposed to pornography because of religious convictions and morals, as exemplified by the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which states:
"Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials."

    Practice what you preach? :pac:
