How to turn on the webcam?

I bought a samsung laptop with webcam recently. The guy in the shop was keen to sell me the one with the webcam (I mentioned my previous one hadn't got one)..Im just getting into using skype etc and I think it will be useful for the youngfella.
Anyway, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to use it/turn it on?
Someone mentioned I might need to buy some software to use it - would this be the case? The guy in the shop never mentioned me having to purchase anything to actually use it..I had though it would be an obvious icon on my desktop - but nada. Advice appreciated, thanks.

If it is built in.

Go to Start > My computer. You should it under your harddrive, Dvd drive. Double click it.

You don't need to buy software to use it, thats nonsense, Skype will automaticly pick it up and allow you to test it when it is installed. My Samsung came with a program "Play Camera" which allows you to use it take pice, record videos etc. Look in the start menu for this. You could also check these out!

And where did you find the 'play camera'?

It's not in My computer - just did that and all that happened was the disc drive opened and asked me to insert disc...

Start Button (Round circle)>All programs>Play Camera, this was on my Samsung NC10, I'm not sure about your one! Try the sites I linked to in my previous post

Thanks yoyo! Just found it under 'Cyberlink Youcam' ....

Next question..can I record videos on this? My youngella is dance mad and wants me to record him and send it to my aunt in the States...also, can I save it on my desktop, rather than going into 'Computer' everytime etc?
Nothing in the instruction booklet about webcam that I got from Samsung..thanks alot:D

Yes, you have a decent webcam program there actually, obviously Samsung are now including that instead, I got my netbook a few years ago now so things have changed! There should be a snapshot mode and a record mode in Youcam, you can get the user guides for youcam here.

Btw right click on the youcam icon in the start menu>Send to>Desktop (Create Shortcut). This will put a youcam icon on the desktop!
