Driving test

    Hi there,

Does anyone know if I can book for a driving test online and select the date of test at the same time as I make the booking? Or do I apply and have to wait for them to send me out the date of test when they've processed my application?

This is really urgent as I have to produce my licence within 10 days as I was caught driving without it yesterday (I was already on my 2nd prov. licence)

Considering waiting lists are over 2 months long, you'd need to get a cancellation spot tomorrow, pass and then send away for your licence straight away.

But it won't work because the date issued on the licence will be after the date on the report.

No there's definitely no way that will work! The garde station will have a dated report of the incident, so a newly obtained licence won't do. In most cases, even when you pass the test, the MTO can take anywhere from 2 days to 3 or 4 weeks to send the licence out!

On the online driving test application form there's a 'schedule' section, which led me to believe that I might be able to select a date?

Yes I am aware of the date of the report, but I had renewed my licence in 2009 and made a genuine mistake of thinking it was good for 3 years so I'm hopin the Gardaí will take that into account.

What I'm asking here is about the date scheduling of the driving test.

On the off-chance that it's possible.

Yes and no. You send away, they send you back a date about a month later. Using the reference number of your test, you can get a cancellation spot (they give you the time and date and ask if you want it).

Just wondering, has your licence expired?

I think some test centres allow test scheduling - what test centre are you trying to apply for? At least they piloted this idea for some test centres (e.g. Raheny), not sure if it still exists!

Sadly, it had, and I have a feeling it's going to be a very costly mistake. My only hope is that the garda I meet with sees that it was a genuine mistake. If not, I think it's a court summons. I guess this is life eh. You have to pay for your mistakes, genuine or not.

I really hope mine does. I have the added hassle here where I got rid of my credit cards and I have to get to bank to get funds into current account so I can pay by laser online, so I have to wait until Monday morning to see if my test centre allows for it. Had it happened on Thursday I could have done this yesterday (Friday). But put it this way, I am going to go through as many test centres as I can to see if I can schedule it once I've paid for it. I am hoping and praying. Have so much stress in my life, a court summons over this is not going to help me to say the least. As it is even having a new licence to show them, or to show I've applied for, may still not be acceptable to them.

But you can't sit your driving test on an expired learner permit. Or am I missing something?

What you should do is apply for a third Learner Permit as soon as you can. Note this only lasts one year, and for future reference - the date of expiry is written on the LP, beside where it says which categories you are allowed to drive.

You must hold an in-date learner permit before you take you test!

OP, this thread isn't going to help you. You have 3 of them around the place so i'm going to close this one.
